Nice find KK. Thanks for posting.
hmm, I have a google account, but cant work out even after adding it to my library, how to read it.
I stumbled on to this on another forum so
I cant claim that I found it
However I am sure it will be a good read on-line
The 1922 edition of this classic
"All About Coffee" by William Ukers has been scanned by the Harvard Library and is now available for FREE via Google Books.
That means you need to create a Google account
Happy reading

Export Library
So I suppose that means to download it ??
KK
Archive.org & Project Gutenberg have the book. Much easier to download.
Try these:

http://www.archive.org/details/allaboutcoffee00ukergoog *(This is the google one)
http://www.archive.org/details/allaboutcoffee00ukeruoft
The two archive links are from different versions it appears, at least the first drawing is different... Havent actually read the book yet.
Thanks for the Gutenberg link, it works well.
I cant make head nor tail out of the Google site as far as downloading is concerned.

OK... Ive now got it in my library, but how do I read it :-?
Hi all
Thanks KK for the heads up on this.
Like others I couldnt work out the Google one so downloaded the zipped HTML version of "All About Coffee" from Gutenberg. Its great, has all the pics and nicely scanned and OCRd. It will be going on my Eeepc Netbook to read on the train.
Also at Gutenberg they have this one which reads interestingly too.
Gold, Sport, and Coffee Planting in Mysore

Covers life of a planter of Coffee in Mysore, India.

cheers for the links ;D
Hi all
Well I have been reading the HTML version of this book in the train and its marvellous. Im learning so much about the history of coffee and the coffee houses in London, Paris, Vienna and the Americas. The online team has done an excellent job of converting this book to HTML.
Anyhow I liked the HTML book and the pictures in it so much that I have just ordered a real, physical hard copy - a 1st edition in fact. It will take about a month to get here. It took quite a few days of researching what was available from where, in what condition and at what price. Suffice it to say that Rudds cheque will be all used up. But Ill have a nice coffee book :-)
Mike
I have read about one third on the HTML version & I keep scrolling forward to see the wonderful pictures and prints
They tell a story without words :)

Hi all
My Ukers 1922 book arrived today at Berkelouws Paddington store. Its wonderful, its in superb condition too. However I will still be using the HTML version to read in the train, especially as this is not a common book :-) The book is 20cm x 26cm x 5cm thick and weighs over a kg. Two pics attached.
A vary happy Mike
Here is the front of the book. The gilding is still fine.
Thats a rare book Mike
Must have cost you a packet
Beautiful condition is it a first (1st) edition
KK
Hi KK
Yep, 1st edition, 1922
I had a choice of a 1st or a 2nd edn. The 2nd edition is a dozen pages longer, so Im probably missing out on various errata and additions :-) The 1st edn was also more $ but decided to get it as its rarer. It is just such a nice book.

The problem with Google book downloads is to do with copyright. Google has more extensive agreements in USA, and rather than risk being sued, they block downloading by people outside USA in a lot of cases.
In another forum I am part of, someone from Aus used a link to his US company site, and found he could download without trouble.
Now when I find books like this, I find Im suddenly late making my first cup for the day...
Bruce :)
