    Funny Coffee Machine Story

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I have a colleague who up to a month ago swore he could not drink coffee. *He enjoyed the taste but claimed it gave him the runs.

So one day whilst Im in the tea room making myself a latte on the Quaha Napoletana II which I purcahsed for the office, he says to me "stuff it, make me one too". *He enjoyed it and no after effects.

To cut to the chase he is now a 4-5 per day coffee drinker. *A couple of weeks ago he bought himself a Breville BES860 Fresca, against my advice from a well known electrical franchise.

There was an issue with the grinder so he takes it back to the store who replaced it with another without question. *He gets home and finds the pressure gauge faulty on the second machine.

He calls the store to express his disgust and claims he doesnt have time to keep coming back to replace faulty machines. *He also gets in contact directly with Breville to let them know of his disappointment in purchasing their flagship model only to be having these problems.

Yesterday a courier was sent from the store who picked up the faulty machine and left him with a EM6910/EM0480. * There was barely a breath of steam coming out of the milk frothing arm.

After a curt phone call to the store, they immediately sent someone out to try to repair but couldnt. They took back the machine but left the receipt so he could claim the free Barista course (which he is donating to me).

Today the manager of the store came to his house with a chocolate gift basket, 1kg of beans, 8 bodum coffee cups and a Gaggia Platinum Vogue. *This made *him rather happy as hed already decided that manual grinding, packing & tamping was not for him. *Total value of around $1700 after spending $800.

The story does not end there. *30 minutes ago a courier from Breville rocks up at the office with another BES860! *Not sure if the penny will drop and they ask to have it returned but it seems like theres no communication between the store & Breville. *He may very well end up with a free upgrade to the Gaggia and a free BES860, for which he still has a receipt thanks to the store!

    WAIT A MINUTE.
Are you saying that someone got not just good, but high quality service from both an appliance retailer and manufacturer??
This is Science Fiction, is it not?

Yes although I should qualify that said colleague is a member of a well-to-do family who spend several $Ks each year with this particular retailer. So unlike any other average Joe, they were quite worried when he said "Ill take my business elsewhere!"

    CJ,

That sounds like a guy in our office - for years he swore that he could not drink caffiene because he has an adverse effect to the caffine. Claimed that it felt like he was having a heart attack every time he touched the stuff.

Dont know why it took so long but at some point somone in the office said "wait a minute - those diet cokes that you are always drinking contain caffine too"

He then became a coffee nut over night - bought himself one of those horrible nespresso machines and claims to be the offices resident coffe expert :)

Now we all wish the stuff would give him a bloody heart attack :D

    ;D ;D ;D

There were a few "coffee experts" at Aroma Fest yesterday. One guy asking how many "bars" the Giotto had. I said "why do you ask?". Because the Breville machines hed just been looking at had 15 bars, and he wanted to know if the Giotto was as good. :o

I think I heard Dan also telling someone that 15 bars meant nothing, optimum brew pressure is 9 bars, etc, etc...

Gotta love them Breville 15 bar machines. ;)

I was pulling shots at Aroma. I wish I had a dollar for every time I explained that 15 bar, means little, and that optimum extraction pressure is 8 to 9 bar, depending on taste (Much like Dan above).

Its like the wattage war in electrical appliances, where the measure of power relates little to the effectiveness of the design.
