Slow day Greg?? ;DOriginally Posted by 53667173437B6679757870140 link=1255419091/0#0 date=1255419091
I had a few minutes to spare this afternoon so I decide to count how many coffee beans it took to make my doppio ristretto piccolo latté.
Before I get to the actual number, I know that the Yemen beans are very small, and Ive made no adjustment for that. The Aceh Arabica Gr 1. beans on the other hand are quite large, and Ive made no adjustment for that either.
My blend was 12 grams of Aceh and 9 grams of Yemen. The beans were ground in my M4D and the coffee espressed (all 25 ml of it) in my Diadema. Steamed milk was added to fill the Illy nude espresso cup right to the brim. And the result was truly delicious.
It took 187 beans to make this coffee. Which leaves that popular instant blend (43 BEANS IN EVERY CUP) only 144 beans short of an excellent coffee. :D
Greg
(It was either that or write another case note.)

Wow. Go Greg, go!
Greg can you think back to a being a teenager and remember how many tea leaves in a teaspoon and how many grains of sugar in a teaspoon? Betting you you did that too.Originally Posted by 57627577477F627D717C74100 link=1255419091/0#0 date=1255419091
And to be a fair comparison you have to use the amount of Nescafe to make two cups of coffee. Perhaps dissolve two teaspoons of Nescafe in a small amount of water, then pour half down the sink and dilute the remaining conc up to a full (small) cup. Im sure it would taste so much better.
So really they are only 101 beans short. ;)
Nope, not a chance.Originally Posted by 60626565666C6F030 link=1255419091/3#3 date=1255421131

Well just to throw everyone out NesCafe doesnt have 43 beans in every cup it was the 43 blend they designed and tested that came back with the most positives, as a instand its not bad, but for coffee far from good
Hmmm.. I beg to differ.Originally Posted by 7B6E7E636D6864696D680C0 link=1255419091/11#11 date=1255929420
The ad campaign from years gone by specifically said:
"43 beans in every cup"
It used to be Nescafe 43 and a number of years ago was re-badged "Blend 43". Same sh!t, different label.
Now, whether it was true or not that there were 43 beans in every cup, who knows, but that was the impression they were trying to put across. 43 beans of your finest, cheapest robusta, liquified and re-dried into soluble yumminess. Matter of fact, I want one.... NEVER!
