My First Post!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Just for a bit of fun, I thought Id find my very first post - 14 September 2008 - and pick holes in some of the things I said as a numpty coffee maker! *My new bits are highlighted...

Hi Everyone

Bought my EM6910 a week and a half ago and am fine tuning my skills! *Ive had a couple of cheap and nasty machines up until now, but the 6910 blows them all away! *Yeah, well - onto a HX machine now which really blows them all away!

I had to report a fault today, however. *I removed the double spout from the machine a week ago (scarily enough, it seemed far too easy to do compared to what the manual said) and gave the single spout a try but then decided that, although usually its only me that has a coffee, I liked the aesthetic look of the double spout so wanted to put it back on. The problem I have now is that the double spout does one revolution and goes semi tight and then twigs and goes loose again. *I think the thread may be gone and possibly was before I undid it the first time. *Ive emailed Sunbeam, so will wait to see what their response is.

Other than this, though, I love the machine and its so fun to use! *My husband thinks Im obsessed because Im making up to five coffees a day on the weekend, and two or three during the week (and Im talking BIG cups of latte!) in order to get the perfect cup Now onto smaller cap cups. *Im still waiting on my redemption 0480 coffee grinder to turn up, but purchased a cheap Breville conical burr grinder to get me through until the 0480 turns up which is, hopefully, not too far away!

Now for my questions:

• Im due to go off to my Sunbeam Coffee School on 4 October 2008, which Im really looking forward to (I need some serious help with my tamping technique - I only get it right about 1 time every 6 goes or so!). *When at the Coffee School, should I take some extra money with me? Do they usually have add on stuff at the school you can buy, such as coffee beans, equipment, etc?

• At the moment, the only store I live near that I can buy (sort of) fresh roasted beans from is a large coffee store chain and I suspect that the beans are not that fresh at all yep, youre right there!. *While they have a large variety of flavoured beans, :P I tend to like my beans just standard and add flavoured syrup if I feel like it . *What is everyones recommendation on buying coffee beans online. Do they get to you still fresh by the time theyve gone through the post?

My normal bean purchase is Lavazza Cafe because I like the milder flavour of them read staler! - Im not into strong coffee (Im a 1/4 strength girl when buying from a coffee shop) but I do like a nicely rich coffee. Sorry if I sound like a heathen! [smiley=evil.gif] * WTF - I cant believe I said that and, yes you were a heathen, girl!!! *:o

Thanks for your replies!
Ah, the gormlessness of youth - hey, I was still in my 30s then!!!

;D

Cheers

Hi All,
I am thinking of purchasing one of these machines. I would be intrested to hear what the owners of this machine think.
I have heard it is noisy (so loud that 2 people cant talk next to each other.
Can you get good coffee out of it and your general impressions.
Thanks for your time.

Re: My First Post!

Mine took a bit of digging but, in the end, what I did was find the date I first registered and then did a Google search of site:coffeesnobs 14 September 2009 and looked through the posts on those dates until I found mine.

I wasnt ever really a lurker before I posted the first time, so this did make it easier for me...

Cheers

Hello there,
Im sorry about the speed of this question but i just want to ask a couple of quick ones,

Since the Gaggia Classic is no longer available, i was Looking at either the Gaggia Baby dose or baby twin, just cant seem to find too much info on them, i can get the baby twin for $630, or the Dose for $500, is this good, are they good machines, or should i look for a second hand classic? sorry again for the brevity of this post but its almost closing time at the shops 8-)

just looking for your advise if this is a good deal or am i barking up the wrong tree!, ha ha

thankyou so much in advance

Hello all coffee lovers and enthusiasts alike!,
You lot have caused me a lot of running around and fibbing! - let me fill you in....

Ok there i was, sick to death of drinking burnt crappy coffee out of my breville bar vista, loved the whole process of grinding the beans, filling the water, pouring the coffee, frothing the milk.....just didnt like the taste too much, my parents bought a small shop in bendigo with a commercial coffee machine, it makes beautiful coffee and i was jealous!, so here i was thinking its time to upgrade.
Well i wandered around all day last sunday thinking of spending around $250, long story short i bought a breville 800ES, very happy with the purchase, came home made my first coffee and .......uh, thought i was doing something wrong, got on the net to do some research, found a site called www.coffeesnobs.com.au through google.com, i looked around the forums here and the impression i got was that i bought a good looking boat anchor!, my mind started to think.......hmm the sales lady told me the coffee/steam switch was an adjustable dial.....well it wasnt!, there was my excuse to return it for a full refund!, people here were mentioning the gaggia classic and the rancilio silvia, i went down to harvey normals and went to look for a gaggia. But all they had were the gaggia baby twin for $639, i raced home jumped on the forum and asked the question, i had heard nothing of the twin and even though it was a gaggia, i didnt want to make the same mistake again.....unfortunately i received no replys and i thought nope, im not buying it without consulting the experts.
So then i jumped on EBAY!, searched and searched for either a gaggia classic or a silvia, any way many sweaty waiting hours later i was the proud new owner of a rancilio silvia!, it is due to be delivered mid next week and i cant wait, now i just need to get myself a decent grinder so i can throw out the cheapy and a tamp too.
What im saying in all of this is thankyou for all the expert content on this site, it guided me to finding a great machine!, thankyou coffeesnobs!
see you soon with my first few results next week!
cheers
Thanks Di for the tip on finding my first post! ;)

My first post is buried somewhere in the mists of time.

However I will encourage others to read through some ancient posts for an amusing read.

It was the oldest I ran across too; but as I joined 3 weeks earlier, I also dont think it is the first.
Thanks for taking the time to search.

Although, my foggy memory has some recollection of registering twice on coffeesnobs due to a rebuild of the site in 2004??

Anyhow, the post is the What Coffee Equipment do you all have? and the items I own have changed somewhat.

What a fun trip down memory lane!

A bit of searching appears to show this as my first post: http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1092462710/11#11

I edited the post to remove the broken links to the pictures and added them as attachments, but otherwise left the post untouched. :)

Hi all.

I just wanted to say hi and this appeared to be the best place to do it.

I have been visiting this site for a year now and have only just decided that you all seem okay to talk to!! *;)

No, seriously I thought it was about time I joined in on some of your conversations as they all look good!

I wont tell you too much about myself just yet, just like a good cup of coffee, I will let you discover that for yourself!! :)

Suffice to say, I have over the years progressed from coffee drinker to coffee snob through a process of learning from as many sources as I am able to.

Once I see what sort of a reaction you have to me, Ill let you know what machine setup I have!! (cause its not all that impressive but we like it!) :)
You can all guess at the set up Im referring to here... :D
