Such a thing as a long white?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Hi, new to the forums but they look fantastic.

My usual coffee is about ~300ml coffee/water and a little bit of milk. (300ml being the size of one of my mugs.)

Would that be called a long white, as opposed to a flat white which is pretty much an espresso shot and the rest steamed milk.

Im still experimenting with my aeropress in making a good "long white". Usually I make just make a double espresso shot (~60ml) then add hot water and milk to complete. Occasionally Ill try running all the water through the grounds as a variation. Thoughts on the best technique?

    E.

I would say that is a very frothy latte. But essentially no. We just call it a latte. Long white is not what youd call it.
Pull me up if i said anything wrong here.

Re: Such a thing as a long white?

    Hi and welcome,

no name as such that I know of but I have my coffee that way (300 ml MUG) fairly often but with a Syphon base with a dash of milk (I know I know I am a heathen) with most of them. Depending on what beans I am using I also drop the milk out to taste in particular with a new coffee or anything with a citrus taste.

Using the word Espresso and Aeropress has been debated here before too and to my way of thinking it is certainly not an espresso shot but is an Aeropress shot of strong coffee. So the flavours from the Aeropress are fairly different so the drink names have little relevence to espresso based drinks.

Maybe a White Americano might be a better descrition if anything rather than a long white. :-?

I think Long White sounds right.

After all it is a Long Black, whitened.

    Better copyright the name Evan.

Americano normally doesnt have much if any real Crema (shot poured first) instead of a long black (shot poured on top). IDK call it a white coffee but then it sounds to much like someone taking the lid off the international roast tin

I dont think so Domk. pretty sure a long Mach. is served in a 90ml Glass/demitasse, where a long black is generally an 8 or 12 oz. Please someone correct me if i am wrong.

There is a New Zealand website called "Land of the Long Flat White: Coffee Culture in Aotearoa New Zealand".

However, is it not just a Café au lait?

i wouldnt bother getting caught up with a certain name for it.

if what you drink is what you drink, would a name change it?

on the other hand, the moment you start asking for something not on the menu when going out you might get stuck.

Why not name it a White Americano or Long White Americano. A long Machiato is only just tainted (stained) with milk, so if you like it with more milk a different name might be better. If unsure ask for long black with milk added to make it white.

    Cheers

Not many restaurants would be using an aeropress ;)

IMHO, no. A long white is just a modified latte if you ask me. Your average cafe will possibly just give you a confused look and ask if you wanted a flat white, long black or a latte.

At our cafe we just call them a long black with milk on the side. Also with the milk separate the customer can add as much as they need.

I cant think of a name for it but as I have that with my breakfast I am interested to hear. I half fill the mug with hot water then the shot on top then a small amount of frothed milk. How about we call it a Australiano :D

    Its a white coffee.
In Italian style places it would be an americano con latte.
