    Just a quick heads up...

Mountain Top Estate in Nimbin which is the prettiest farm with the best coffee in the country is going onto the market soon.

By total coincidence my birthday is in June and if our 13,000 members chipped-in $200* each you could prob buy it for me.

Of course I would let you come and stay when you wanted and Im sure we could find some great coffee for you to drink while you were there.
    Sigh... one can only dream.

    Re: Mountain Top Estate

    Got this today:

    FRIDAY 4TH FEBRUARY 2011
    Were selling Mountain Top Estate
    Hey guys,
Well this newsletter brings mixed emotions as we go public with our plans to market the Mountain Top Coffee Estate over the coming months.
Mountain Top has been my personal life blood over the past 14-years; my father & I set-out in 1997 with an audacious plan to become the "Grange Hermitage" of the world of green coffee, neither of even drank coffee at the time and certainly had no idea of the intricacies and challenges that would lay ahead. In fact soon after we had made our decision to buy the property, I proposed to my now wife and asked her Lavazza drinking Sicilian father if I could take her hand in marriage, move her to Nimbin and grow coffee - "your mad" was his response!
The first few years were interesting and challenging trying to deign and setup the plantation whilst working another jobs, but we traveled the coffee producing world from 1999-2003, from Guatemala, Colombia, Bolivia and Peru, several trips to Brazil and Hawaii all in a quest to understand specialty coffee production & processing methods.
I made my first trip to an SCAA conference in Miami, 2001 in a quest to find out about this term - "specialty coffee" - unheard in Australia at the time. For the first few days I thought I was the only Aussie at the event until, ever inquisitive, I pushed through the black curtains at the end of the exhibition hall to find a small room with 30-40 passionate soles making coffee on a stage, plonked myself down next to lovely gentleman and started chatting, "ah so your an Aussie - at last" (it was Andrew Gross), then heard the compare (George Sabados) talking with a competitor (Emily Oak), all of which was being overseen by the Head Judge (Instuartor) .. ahhh, so now I know were all the Aussies hide-out!
From day one, we set about to challenge conventional thinking on everything from plantation layout, processing design, setup and operation, coffee quality, quality systems, packaging ... pretty much every decision from early on was based on trial between several alternatives and the decision being made on cupping the coffees and selecting the best cup result. We employed the best and brightest minds from around the world to help us learn about coffee production, agronomy, mechanical harvesting, processing design and installation. We conducted 5 research and development projects on production oriented quality programs, with the full support of the Australian Federal and state governments from 2001-2007.
Fate or fortune landed a pallet of our first years Mt Top Estate, Bin series coffees with good friends from Solberg & Hansen in Norway, literally weeks prior to the 4th WBC event to be held in Trieste Italy. Tim Wendelboe loved it and used it in competition. It was a major compliment to our coffee, but equally bold move from Tim .. he got up on stage and said I am using a coffee grown in Australia, at 300meters elevation and using it as a single estate espresso! He smashed several long held myths about coffee, quality and espresso blending and used single origin coffees in espresso before the concept was even though of let alone common place.
Tim won, Mt Top Estate received some notoriety and we have subsequently been active in supporting several other WBC competitors in national and international events. Mt Top has lead me to judging WBC, COE & national barista events around the world, onto the executive of WBC and the Board of Directors for Cup Of Excellence, it has allowed me to travel the world several times over and provided the skills and lessons to transition into the next phase of my career, that as a green coffee trader within MTC Group.
Were hoping t find a buyer who sees the massive potential in Mt Top Estate as a business and has the energy and enthusiasm for the project to take it to the next level; either as a larger scale green coffee production/trading business. It has never been a better time with green prices heading into record high prices. OR translates the brand into a consumer driven retail or roasted coffee brand.
This newsletter is to simply thank all those people who have been part of the journey for their support and counsel & hope to continue the journey with you over the coming years.
Thanks and our most sincere regards,
Andrew & Graham Ford (& all the Mt Top Team)"

I am a huge fan of their coffee...would love to have the coin to buy it.

    Cheers

13,000 willing members at $200 each equals $2,600,000 for MTE.
Then i guess youd also have to move family and the Snobbery to warmer pastures as well.
