Nestlé launches BabyNes, the first comprehensive nutrition system for babies, in Switzerland
    May 25, 2011

Nestlé today announced the launch in Switzerland of its premium BabyNes system, a unique combination of nutrition innovation, high-tech machine technology and after-sales service.

BabyNes is the world’s first comprehensive nutrition system for infants and toddlers, and is based on Nestlé’s latest scientific achievements in baby nutrition and systems technology. With BabyNes, Nestlé builds on its unmatched expertise in baby nutrition gained over 145 years since the invention of Farine Lactée by Henri Nestlé.

Nestlé supports exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of an infant’s life, in line with World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations, and continued breastfeeding thereafter for as long as possible. For babies who are not breastfed, Nestlé provides high-quality breast milk substitutes, such as BabyNes.

BabyNes offers single-serve formulas for infants and young children up to the age of three years. The composition of the six consecutive formulas meets the evolving nutritional needs in the first three years of life: four formulas in the first year, and one formula for each of the following two years. The customised composition of these products is tailored to suit the growth pattern in early life and the baby’s changing nutritional needs, while taking into account the steady introduction of solid food into the infant’s diet.

The single-serve portions are sealed in capsules, used in the proprietary BabyNes machine, which recognises each capsule and prepares the bottle with precisely the right dosage and temperature, at the push of a button, in less than one minute. The BabyNes machine combines state-of-the-art technology with the utmost safety and convenience, and ensures a hygienic, quick and easy bottle preparation.

Interesting concept, I think a lot of mothers would go for it, anything to make life easier. I cant see a problem as long as they do contain all the right things for the babys health and well being.

Given the pricing of the "nespresso" system, I cant see too many people having the money spare to purchase a setup. A normal tin of formula is jolly expensive, let alone how much one thats been packaged up into individual serves, and requires a special machine to use...

Nestle also promote formula as being better than breast milk in many developing countries. The problem is that the water quality that the formula is mixed with is so poor that the children die from water born diseases that they would not have been exposed to had they been drinking breast milk.

"exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 mths" - I thought WHO was pushing for 2yrs?

There will always be someone that will like the aspect of any formula system that promotes quickness and correct dosage techniques.

I was one of the fortunate ones that was able to breastfeed for the first twelve months bypassing formula largely to go straight to cows milk when the need arose.

    Each to their own.

Im not sure how quick and easy that would be, so if you go away on holidays do you have to bring this machine with you? Seems like a waste of money to me.

If you want to trust your childs health to a company with the ethical history of Nestle then go for it, just dont act all surprised when things dont quite work out.

Google "Nestle ethics" and see what you dig up.

Im surprised a coffee website is promoting a product from a company that opposes the FairTrade coffee system.

First off were hardly promoting Nestle. This whole thread is a very derogatory comment on pods. Secondly if you ignored all the AdvertisingSpeak and looked into exactly how the FairTrade system works you would very likely find yourself placing its ethics right alongside those of Nestle.

Sorry, nothing derogatory in the original post that I can see. Just the whole spiel from Nestle, republished for the world to read, plus a link to their website. What did I miss?

You must be new around here ;D

No one, especially Andy Freeman, is promoting Nestle. You have misinterpreted his post.

I have also provided a link to Wikipedia which shows quite a damning portrayal of Nestles ethics, or lack thereof >:(
