    Honeymoon Cafe list

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hey guys,
Im getting to spend my first week of marital bliss (hoping its bliss) in November over the other side of the country to me in the lovely Melbourne.

I was wondering if your collective knowledge could lead me to the best coffee (and breakfast) so that we have somewhere new each day of the week we are there...

Well I hope you can help me.

Im not from Melbourne so Im sure there are lots more than the few below, these are our favourites, all scattered around strategically positioned near sisters/brothers/inlaws etc. and get visited every time we go.

Deadman Espresso -South Melb: awesome coffee and food (French toast was amazing, but $17), cool vibe in there too.

St Ali - South Melb: just round the corner from Deadman, everything is good.

Liar Liar - Hawthorn: had some very tasty breakfasts here a few times, not the biggest place so can be pretty full. Service was always good, had 6 of us order breakfast/drinks/coffee with very particularly picky dietary requirements/changes to 3 of the meals, the girl had no notepad and everything came out at the same time without 1 mistake, I was impressed.

Proud Mary - Collingwood: This place churns out great coffee and food, can get very busy and have been put on seating reserve lists a few times, but well worth the wait. you also get to dribble all over one of the only (I think) 6 group Synessos in the world.

Brother Baba Budan - CBD: Its tucked away and I dont think they really do breakfast, but an awesome place to stop. Theres seating right behind the barista so you can sit there and watch them work away, which is very cool.

Theres some to get you started anyway.

Auction Rooms in North Melbourne is a definite must go in my opinion. Really top quality food and excellent coffee.

Proud Mary in Collingwood as PeteL said - they have excellent food and coffee (I think its Five Senses still).

Axil Coffee in Hawthorn is run by Dave Makin and Zoe Delaney and is brilliant.

Three Bags Full in Abbotsford is another favourite of mine although it doesnt seem to get mentioned too often.

There are a whole heap more too, but these are ones Ive been to a few times and they have been consistently good for both food and coffee! Some of the other speciality coffee places have quite limited food menus so they might not be brilliant for brekky.

Weve done a couple of melbourne tours lately.

Heres a list that some friends put together for us (ignore all the Koko Blacks): http://g.co/maps/fvuxz

My top 10, in no particular order
    1. Brother Budan (little bourke st) - not much food here
    2. St Ali (great all round)
    3. sensory lab (on the street frontage of DJs mens section in the city)
    4. Proud Mary
    5. 7 seeds
    6. The Maling Room (beautiful space, try the spanish eggs)
    7. Demitris Feast has AMAZING food.
    8. 7 grams
    9. Liar Liar
    10. Brunettis - forget the coffee, just go for the food. Amazing desserts.

You are definitely a CoffeeSnob - Just married and the first thing you are thinking of is good coffee and where to get it.

    Congrats on the upcoming Nuptials.

By the way the following words are the secret to a long and happy marriage - "Yes dear of course you were right" can be used in many situations, particularly if you think you were right in the first place and the phrase defuses most situations. ;)

Not in our household.... The detection of condescension would have me sharing the outdoors with the bats and the beetles.... :o ;)

Market Lane Coffee at Prahan Markets is always a must-visit for me. They run a cupping session every day and it is always a highlight on a visit to Melbourne, drop in after some retail therapy* along Chapel Street ::) :) :) :)

    +1 to seven seeds

Dont forget to visit Lygon St. Lygon Foodstore. Brunettis for the cakes, Grinders. Jimmy Watsons (well its wine rather than coffee).

Vic market is worth a look as well. McIvers is there for beans.

    Re: Honeymoon Cafe list

@greenman: with all due respect greenman senpai. no offense meant ^^.

    and if i may add,
    1. League Of Honest Coffee (padre with 2 slayers and many roburs 8-))
and just for sightseeing, accross it is an Illy cafe with a e61 faema legend :)
good espresso too if youre into Illy coffee.
    2. 65degrees
(1 and 2 are near my place hehe, fb80, gridlock coffee)
    3. Little Bean Blue (cafenatics - strada!!!)

and if from little bean blue, head deeper into the heart of CBD and youll find several Guava Bean franchises. There should also be a Toby Estate espresso bar somewhere there, just havent pinpointed them yet.

    4. and while youre near Auction Rooms and 7 seeds, theres also Di Bella.

    5. of course theres Brother Baba Budan already listed above, but you could also sneak to Naked Espresso just further up the road, the baristas (Shanny and Tom) is very very friendly.

and if youre into cupping sessions, in addition to market lane,
Monday 5:30pm (sometimes 5) at small batch (auction rooms roastery, but make a call before ya go)
    Thursday 10am @ 7seeds, 3pm @ De Cleu.

and.... theres a la candelila geisha on Market Lane filters!

If you are visiting Brother Baba Budan check out the laneway next door (Rankins Lane) and Manchester Press, worth a visit if you have time on your ever-growing cafe wish-list :D :D :D

Was in Melbourne last week and stayed at Little Bourke street where BBB and Manchester Press are. Got to say I much preferred the morning coffees at Manchester Press maybe because of the spacious seating and fantastic Bagels compared to the cramped Brother Baba Budan (although the people were nice enough). Coffee was decent at BBB though.
The two mornings I went to Manchester Press for breakfast they rotated their single origins which was very nice to be able to try to have a different single origin each morning. The latte art was impressive too. I had a couple of espressos and a couple of lattes as well as the smoked salmon bagel and the charizo bagel. Over the two mornings obviously

I do recommend MP when in the area. loved the charizo bagel!
