    Dregs

Not sure what the "official" name for used coffee grind, but did you know that it has some use? According to my resident minister of agriculture (alias, "she who must be obeyed") used coffe grinds are compostable, and also work as good natural pest repellent if placed around the base of plants.

If you know other good uses, why not share them on this thread?

As posted in http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1169549697 you can use spent grounds to make fireplace logs.

I have a grindstein knock box and the little flyer that came with it said it made good compost/mulch.

I was at a busy cafe in trigg (wild fig? i think) and they were selling big bags of old grounds for a couple of dollars with a label saying good for the garden.

I have been dumping mine in the garden for the last few months, doesnt seem to have killed anything.

I also know that coffee grounds are a major component in some potting mixes. If youre planting seedlings or transplanting into another pot, it also wouldnt hurt to mix some through the soil/potting mix.

Bloody hell - telll that to my slaters! Little buggers have gone on a breeding frenzy since I started putting the used grounds in the garden.

    They do compost nicely though.

Well the coffee probably means they are awake more hours in a day so they have to do something to kill time ;)

We are so poor, so dirt poor, that we dry out the pucks and then re-use them to make coffee.

I have heard of people doing that with tea bags. Drying them out and than sending them out to charities >:(

I am sure things will pick up soon for you Robusto ;)

    Hi Grendel

Please forgive me for asking but it is late at night as I read this but...

Is it the dregs or the slaters which compost nicely?

    :-)

I pound the pucks back into powder and put them in my watering can then water my pot plants with it.

Some go onto my old vege patch; I wonder how that will be when I start to use it again?

The rest go in the bin; smells nicer than garbage.

    Hey all,

how about breaking them up and using them to fill pods...

Probably just as good as the coffee you normally find in there ;) ;D

After a while the coffee disappears but slater shells seem to drift around for months.
