    Grimac La Uno

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi guys,

Can anyone give me any intel on the Grimac La Uno machine. My 6910 has died in a big way and I am totally desperate for a new machine. There is one on E#@$ for $850 buy now price. Is this a reasonable price? As far as I can see, This machine looks really good. E61, 1.3L boiler, etc......
Prompt advice would be really appreciated.....

    Nick

Reasonably old now (atleast 12 years?)

    Solid machine.

For a similar capacity to other more modern smaller bodied semi commercials, it sits in a bigger taller body which is not so convenient for some kitchen situations.

Old style boxy / rectangular look may not appeal to some

Crappy "not really commercial at all" steam valve and steam pipe assembly. Doesnt seal well, leaks, fails often enough requiring servce if used in small business situation where there will be more use than in a household

Otherwsie a neat solid long lived machine (as long as it hasnt been in an area with crappy hard water, and the steam valve isnt on its last legs...)

    Hope that helps.

There are a small nunmber of members here that have them.....comments from the floor?

PS in my capacity as an equipment repairer, if it were mine I would want to change out the standard steam valve and pipe assembly for a better type. But for a householder to do that, they would have to find a repairer willing to take on such a modification, and be prepared to pay the ransom which in the end, may make the machine easier to sell on some time later, but wouldnt make the machine worth any more money.....In essence, it would be a mod done simply for the owners satisfaction in use, and it would certainly make the machine a much better package.

That particular la uno was sold here on coffeesnobs, beginning of this year. It was on eebay for $750, didnt sell, reappeared for $950, didnt sell and now you say it is listed for $850.

    Sound sus... id stay away.

    Hello EL.

In the context of your questions:
"...Can anyone give me any intel..." and
"...Prompt advice would be really appreciated..."

....I am not sure what you mean by "...it has to be better than the sunbeam...".

Of course it is, but you asked for the intel, and you got it* ;) !

    Tim.

Not trying to be difficult at all but I dont know if I would call it sus on the basis of your post only. If the machine is hard to sell and the owner is trying various ways to do so effectively, you cant blame him for that!

In addition if it is hard to sell, you could probably look for an explanation inside these esteemed* virtual walls, where only a select few brands are recommended round in circles thereby making other brands look less than acceptable or desirable.......while in fact they may well be quite good little machines given certain limitations, and in their day they were very very good for what they were then......

    Just a thought* :)

Oh and by the way I dont know the particular machine or its owner at all that I know of, so no bias here. And of course if you mean the listing could be bogus/sus, I have no idea on that score.

Sometimes pricing yourself too low creates unwarranted suspicion. Its all part and parcel of buying a used item. Someones going to take the plunge and maybe pleasantly surprised or end up with a lemon. Ask questions, do your research and then make a decision. I wouldnt compare it to the sunbeam, not even in the same league. Im pretty sure these are Heat Exchange machines.

No, i understand. It just strikes me as strange why it would be on-sold so quickly. Then the price raised after it didnt sell. Although to be fair, everyone has their reasons.

After trying to contact the seller, they did not respond to any of my questions - for whatever reason.

It looks to be a good little machine though - but because of the above reasons, just wanting the potential buyer to be aware.

    Behmor Brazen - $249 - Free Freight
As it turns out i didnt buy the Grimac. I did however find the owner to be very helpful and i dont believe it to be a lemon. But i still need a machine. I am using a my pressi for the moment but it is a little anoying to use, especially if you want milk (milk warmed in the microwave is NOT cool). If ANYONE knows of a good machine for sale for around $800-900 please pm me.
