Wonder just which cafe style coffee machines they will stock? I guess the sales staff will serve up their usual excellent technical advice and offer demos on how to use these newly discovered coffee producing wonders. ;D

Take it with a grain of salt and the marketing hype it is.

HN already sell multi-thousand dollar machines - in-wall super autos. Who knows what the idiots at the Australian class as cafe style? They could just mean the BES900.

I cant imagine theyd be up for the support nightmare of a less forgiving machine than the Breville.

IF (and thats a big IF) they actually stock anything half-decent, it would be a good thing for those of us that reside in the sticks as it would allow us to dribble over some machines face to face rather than on the net. Currently there is only one enthusiast machine on display in the country city where I reside and that is a Giotto Rocket displayed at my favourite local Cafe.
One could speculate that sales of enthusiast machines might also stimulate a local service industry (which currently doesnt exist).
It would almost certainly be a stimulus to the growth of an enthusiast community here, which would be great.
It would be good to see HN move on from the proliferation of pod machines and big automatics that currently fill their shelves. If you mention "coffee machine" to a local here they immediately assume you mean either a Sunbeam, pod or big automatic machine.

Re: Hardly Normal to sell cafe-style coffee machines.

Me thinks there are very few importers of prosumer machines in Australia who would let them within a country mile of any of their gear.

I would rather lose sales than see an Izzo with Hardlys and I suspect most importers of the major brands would feel the same. Their model only works with stuff which retails at 5x importer landed price in the land of the kickback, the long lunch and the almighty buck.

Its well known that the big guys get freebie appliance stock for demo and marketing purposes as well as massive rebates on sales. Thats why we see stuff retail at under wholesale price- regardless of the rubbish which we are fed by manufacturers. Some would call that anti-competitive. For example, its how I managed to buy 3 grinders from them at $35 ea under my wholesale purchase price. Its also why we no longer sell the BDB. So- if they call to ask what day it is, Ill be politely declining assistance.

There is no way that theyd be able to provide the sales and support required anyway. Better for them to sell Breville and Sunbeam at a loss, flog a TV and friggerator or two and then whinge that they are losing money.

Id be simply calling it a slow news day...::)

They sell PCs and laptops. They already know what a support nightmare consists of!
