    Green bean BeanBay help

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi fellow coffee addicts.

I have decided to purchase my first batch of green beans and try roasting them myself in a popcorn machine.

I looked on the Beanbay part of the site (green beans) and was totally overwhelmed.... where do I start.... so many choices. Aaaahhhhhh....

Can I trouble you for some help to buy a great bean for a strong Espresso or Picolo?

    Thank you
    Justin

I agree. Nothing better than the starting pack. Without knowing more about your tastes, it is difficult to suggest a bean. Besides, we all have different tastes as well.

Ok, thank you. I'll give it a try :-)

Would you recommend I try the beans separately/ independently or... do I mix them for a blend???

If you want something more than the sample pack, go for the Ghimbi, I can recommend it highly using both in the popper and the Behmor, you can use it straight away without resting (of course it's better with resting, like most beans). I still use this as a backup bean in the Behmor if I need something straight away.

I third that go with the sample pack, you get a variety of green beans to try. If however you didn't want to do that, try a bean that is easy to roast and is also nice such as Indian Elephant Hill or Peru.

Good luck its great fun and addictive

Indepedently to start with. Learn what you like. Then start blending. Since you're using a popper, you should get a few batches out of your 500g

Which Behmor roast profile do you use for the Ethiopian Ghimbi?

    PS
Actually just tried a roast of 240gms (192gms roasted) Ghimbi on 1/2lb-p2-B +45secs at end. Just into rolling second crack at start of cooling and continued for awhile. Tiny bit of smoke proabably from the plentiful chaff. Very dark maybe CS10 but no burnt smell on beans. Went from second crack to rolling second crack quickly which caught me off guard a little. Be interesting to taste it in a few days.

    Behmor Brazen - $249 - Free Freight
    Sample pack!

When you get so that your coffee is consistent from cup to cup and you can taste the differences in the beans, then home blending is the next step.
