    Giotto premium problems

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,
I recently upgraded from BZ99 with rocky grinder to Giotto premium with Anfim Best grinder (both second hand). This is the problem I'm having:

    1. Wet puck - at the end of the shot there is a little water on the puck and it is soft. A finer grind setting gets rid of water and the puck is firm but see 2.
    2. Grind is either too fine (coffee comes out in drops rather than stream) or too course (stream is too fine and early blonding with wet puck).
    3. Coffee comes out of the left spout a long time before it does out of the right spout. If I just let water pour out (without coffee) it comes out of both spouts evenly.

My dosing is consistent (half dose, two taps, finish dose, two taps, level) and my tamp is the same for all shots.

    Boiler pressure is at 1.1.
I roast my own beans and they are about 5-7 days old.

I'm at a loss as to how to correct it.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Tal

Hi Tal, a few questions and some answers.

Firstly what sized basket are you using? Don't botther with the 7g basket it's hopeless.
Secondly I don't doubt you have a consistant tamp style as you are consistantly getting coffee out of the left spout. Check that you are not consistantly slanting the tamp one way or the other.

Is the Anfim Best a stepped adjustment grinder? Supposing that the single adjustment to coarser is causing too fast a flow the only way to compensate is to updose a little and slowing the flow that way.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Saoye,
Thanks for your reply. I use the double basket (14g I think). As for slanted tamp, I too thought that it may be the problem but I take care to tamp evenly (Pullman tamper had level rings to help with this).
Ill give the up dosing a go.
    Thanks,
    Tal
