Must have been a slow news day
The media have got their hooks into variation of caffeine levels in coffee, I foresee some form of regulation/labelling being imposed throughout the retail industry.
Only in Australia.

Must have been a slow news day
What next will we have to display a sign in our kitchen showing the caffeine level in our coffee. As stated it must have been a slow news day. Surely scientists have more to do than test caffeine levels around the place. When will they accept that people will drink what they like - they do not really care what the levels are as long as they like it
While I too am of the opinion it musta bin a slow news day, you must not discount that Australia has quickly become the land of "dont walk on the grass" syndrome. We have lots of rules and regs and signs to save us from ourselves and keep us safe. Used to be "the lucky country"....now its become "the Over Regulated Country".
There's a great protest song from the 60's about that.......gimme a minute and I'll remember its name.....
So if some do gooder thinks we should be saved from the evil purveyors of over caffeinated beverages (their opinion) and ourselves, then by golly we shall have a regulation for that.
Remember people, we all vote for this scheit when we vote some of these loonies in......
Edit: ah yes...."Signs". Sign sign everywhere a sign, blocking out the scenary, breaking my mind, do this, dont do that, cant you read the sign...... gimme another minute and I'll try and remember the band....
Yes, the 5 man electric band (well, I had to google the name of the band).
I wouldn't be too hard on the scientists involved. I think there's possibly some public interest in having info on the extent of the range of caffeine content in retail coffee as served (in itself that can't hurt). e.g. for people with mild hypertension etc, it's not a bad thing to know that the caffeine content is highly variable. Now, that doesn't mean that we need a signing/labelling regime (though some people might try to give us one).
Hey Barry, its called Decaff hehehe, and there are good decaffs to be had especially if they are handled properly in cafes (which they seldom are....).
And I reckon some people will try to give us a signing/labelling regime you wait !
(waiting to see what extra signs the new local "govt" will be bringing to us during the course of their term.......)
That would of course fall under the classification of "truth in advertising "
I can see the future...... today on the Grinders we have
House Blend :115mg
Single Origins - Ethopian Yirg 97mg
- Colombian Volcanes 187.5mg
Guest Roast by "anothercafewitharoaster" - 213mg (those with heart conditions consume at own risk...)
Probably should be warning people about the health risks of bacon before they touch coffee!!
and the cigarette they are going to smoke either with the coffee or immediately after.
That would not be the warning on the health hazards of smoking that we already have, it would be the new warning about not mixing the two stimulants together....only one at a time please and only after a regulated specified interval has elapsed between one and the other. After that it will be on to a regulation concerning the number of specified stimulant hits you can have in any given 24 hour period.
