    From Sydney to Armidale...

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I found out yesterday that for college I have to make the trek from Sydney to Armidale and will be there for 4 days before driving back. So I am curious as to whether anyone knows of any good coffee haunts to check out on the way or once I am there. I will be leading a team so wont be able to get too far off the beaten track but was hoping there may be some knowledgable soul/s out there that may have some places to recommend and of course there will be many who can recommend places to avoid at all costs I am sure.

This will be my longest seperation from my Expobar :( All wont be lost of course when I take out the 2000 member comepetition ;) I am sure the grand prize would pack nicely in the boot for such a road trip.

Wee Waa is the only decent coffee in the North West...

    No, seriously...

    :P

    My fave place is

Tamworth: The Inland Cafe. Consistently good coffee, great service, food and you can perve on your car...<----so that sounds weird I know but I do like to look at my Chevy pickup parked in the main street of Tamworth, kinda seems fitting! I had a laugh!

Armidale: Ive had coffee at Caffiends and now also at Cinders Lane. At Cinders Lane, it wasnt a happy experience, the "barista" tamped with the grinders tamper, kept the portafillers off the machine and everything, including sit down was in takeaway cups!! What the....?? :o :o Id go to Caffiends first from now on. Though I am yet to try the Goldfish Bowl.

I will be there 14th to 19th of March. I am yet to confirm the exact dates but it is within that time frame just not sure if I have to be there on the 14th or leave on the 14th ready to do stuff on the 15th.

My team has a lecturer coming alone as well, I am not sure if he is a winery fan. So depending how many cars go up I may or may not get to check out the winery by your recommendation. I will make an effort to try to get to the cafes you suggested above. Hopefully I will know a more exact itinerary within the next week. It will just be an honour to be in the same town as the infamous Scootagal. I am sure there wont be too many Chevy pickups floating around or scooters for that matter, maybe the odd yellow 900ss though ;) All very cool vehicle options there Scoota.

You must try Goldfish Bowl Espresso Bar in Armidale.

They make some of the best coffee anywhere... not just anywhere in Armidale, I mean anywhere at all.

The shop faces Dangar Street in Armidale. Just up the hill from Beardy Street. Must admit Ive only had coffee from Nick, but Im sure his brother makes a great cup as well. The food there aint bad either.

Yeah, Framey. I know about the Goldfish Bowl and its still on my to do list!

As long as they use a real tamper and dont serve sit down in takeaway cups, theyll be ahead of the rest anyway! I had a laugh!

Yeah, Coffeechaser, listen out for those dulcet tones of a rather bright yellow Ducati...then again my parents dont know that I ride it, yet. Hmm, could be the lovely heart throb of a V8 Chevy instead! giggled like a schoolgirl!! ;)

Well I have had a Armidale coffee experience now. Not too bad for a small town. The Goldfish Bowl was definately the pick of the cafes that I tried. Definately not the best coffee I have ever had but was okay. I went there a few times and they were a little inconsistent but above average. I tried another place that used Merlo and they were ordinary.

It was great timing because I got to meet Scootagal in Armidale and have a coffee or two so that was great. So thanks Scootagal :)

I got to educate a few people in the wonderful world of coffee as well. All my team members are now seeking better coffee. The lecturer that came away with us even wants to know where to get fresh roasted coffee from now. He even wants me to take him to some places that serve great coffee, his shout ;)

Overall it is good to see cafes out side of capitals that are improving the coffee scene.

My pleasure, Coffeechaser! It was great timing. I enjoyed the Goldfish Bowl and I enjoyed our conversation, I thought we could have chatted longer!

Glad to hear you got home safe. Will definitely look you and yours up when Im down in old Sydney town next time! (Have that lovely Expobar warmed up and ready for me! ;) )

Yeah silly itinerary getting in the way of our conversation ;) It was great having a chat and definately no shortage of topics. It is great how a common starting point of being a coffee snob can be a foundation for many other conversation topics.

Give a shout out when you are heading to Sydney for sure.

There seem to be quite a few newbs around so maybe a NSW coffee day should be on the cards soon.
