    Throwing out the creama?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I am still new to this but recently got a Compak K3 with Silvia.
I think I have gotten the grind right. I currently get roughly 50ml in 30sec in a 14g stock silvia basket.

I am still finishing up some of my Woolies Lavazza Gold beans which I used to have with an aeropress.

After pulling a few times, I find that the coffee is much more acidic/sour as compared to the aeropress.

I read the following and tried pulling the coffee again.
Good Extraction, Good Espresso - Espresso Guide • Home-Barista.com

The only difference is that I DO NOT collect the first coffee that comes out.
I find that the coffee is much more drinkable and easier on my stomach.

So is it just me or the beans or do other people chuck out the first pour as well?

PS: I have read 'sour' coffee and have temp surf-ed and made sure the machine is warmed up!

I think if I was using Lavazza Gold I would tip out the first part of the shot, the middle of the shot and the end
    ;-)

Grab yourself some fresh roasted coffee and you will never go back!

    Amen to Andy's comment.

Also, its better for you not give details that confuse those that are chiming in to give you the advice. Such as quote "...I currently get roughly 50ml in 30sec in a 14g stock silvia basket...."

14 grams may be the nominal descriptor for the standard filter, but it holds around 16 grams when dosed and tamped properly and needs all of them (16g) for the brew to be good. So on the off chance you weigh your dose (like some).....if you weigh 14g, you will be severely UNDER dosing with resulting aweful brew. (Meaning, a nominal "14 gram" filter isnt necessarily a 14 gram filter!). My advice is dont mention grams or filter sizes / they are whatever they are...just dose by volume to the right level in the filter, and it will improve the coffee outsasight irrespective of whatever grams it may happen to be!

Also, 50 ml in 30 sec is confusing. You are using the double filter, so it should be say 50 ml in both espresso cups ergo 100 ml. If we take the comment on face value, that you are only getting 50ml in 30 sec using a double filter, then someone will chime in that you are grinding way too fine and tell you to coarsen it up....which could be totally wrong and lead everyone ooff on a wild goose chase.

So if you can just stick to a simple description of the problem at hand, leaving out the irrelevancies, it will be easier for people to help. And of course if someone asks you what kind of dose you are using, or what rate of pour you are getting, then you can go from there.

And ofcourse, you then dont / wont throw out any of the brew.

Hope that helps, and as Andy said please get some fresh roasted coffee and try again. You will be blown away (as long as you get your operational technique and grinder set up right).

    Enjoy.

Thanks for the advice. I was trying to get everything precised so I dosed by weight. I did try your method of dosing by volume and found I got roughly 16g! (what a concidence).
I noticed the lack of creama initially so I tried going finer and got about 25ml in each glass (thus total of 50ml) in 30 sec. But I think that could just be the crap coffee. Have put in an order of some fresh coffee from Andy.

I was just curious as some websites mentioned that the aeropress gave a less acidic coffee and was wondering which was the actual issue. The beans, the brew method (aeropress vs machine) or me having a weak stomach.

Was going to mention it but didn't want to be seen as a pedant, now that you've broken the ice, yep it's crema, not creama.
