VBM Domobar Super vs Rocket Giotto Premium Plus Version 2

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Time, research and experience has revealed that in a domestic situation, the HX vs Twin Boiler argument has come down pretty comfortably in favour of HX for a raft of reasons discussed in detail here and on other lists. So my choice in 2009 to get the Expobar Minore II in hindsight may have been the wrong one. While shot quality has been OK, cost of ownership has been unexpectedly high.

Upgraditus has me by the short hairs and the final two choices are the VBM Domobar Super vs Rocket Giotto Premium Plus Version 2. Both great HX machines, similar price. Purely on aesthetics, the styling of the Rocket makes me swoon. Yet I'm leaning towards the VBM. It's decision time. Anyone been in the same position and feel strongly one way or the other?

    Hi PW,
In the same position right now.......there are so many great looking machines at this price point. Can't wait to see the replies to this thread. I would be leaning toward a rocket predominantly because I have pulled shots on them and tasted their wares. Great machine and easy to use. But, I am sure that they are all great machines at this price point.

I will be watching this thread over the next few days.

    Regards, Mariner.

It really comes down to personal preference. Both machines will pull excellent shots.

Some find the VBM wand takes a little more getting used to, but that's just a short term thing. It's also not cool to touch. The finish of the Rocket is a little better, but it's on a powdercoat chassis. The VBM is on stainless steel. For me, neither here nor there. My GS/3 is also on poedercoat!

My recommendation is really to choose the one you prefer!

The VBM has its gauges up on top at eye level. It's also 6cm narrower than the Giotto.

Good points! Especially about the gauges position. That's a case of form vs function.

Rocket Giotto Premium Plus Version 2 Dimensions: (WxDxH) 330x420x350 mm
VBM Domobar Super Dimensions: (WxDxH) 225x420x340 mm

I really wouldn't worry too much about gauges pwp. You will find that they only really become relevant if/when something unusual is happening.

    Choose the one you like!

Both the machines you mention are very well made and highly regarded so dont think you can go wrong with either.

Got a great deal on the Rocket Giotto Premium Plus Version 2 so that's the one I've gone for. I'll be picking it up in the morning! Thanks for your help on this.

VBM Domobar Super vs Rocket Giotto Premium Plus Version 2

    Behmor Brazen - $249 - Free Freight
    Hi PWP,
I too just got one of these. 48hrs down and every shot has been perfect. As long as your grind is good (luckily I was able to dial in first shot) consistency of these machines has blown me away. I loved my little EM6910 but these are, not surprisingly, in a different league. So much easier to get good shots. Hope you enjoy your coffee with this machine as much as I am mine.
    Regards, Mariner.
