Red face When to upgrade, and what to

    Greetings CS

I've had my Silvia for 'a while' now. She was pidded within the first year after which I have not had any troubles since. Providing I'm awake I am able to repeatably pull decent shots.

I would like to finally upgrade (providing a can wrangle permission) but would like some advice.

I'm tired of the delay between brew and steam & would like to get something which will have less (no) delay. Now i'm no coffee shop barista and am not going to be doing both steam and shots at the same time. but I'm tired of waiting to do the milk after pulling a couple of shots.

To me, I understand this means either HX or DB. I'm thinking new, but I would consider current model secondhand.

I'm probably going to be the main user, my SO is unlikely to use it, meaning I can choose either lever or volumetric. I'm leaning towards lever currently.

What disadvantages are there to using the tank, I am hesitant to put a hole in the granite bench tops to plumb this in. If I do plumb it in, is there any guide on how far the drain hose can go ? (affects location)

With the tiny suggestion of a drain tray in the Silvia, I wonder what effect the group head has. I have this notion that the HX models will spray out hot water to maintain the correct temperature. Is there any truth here ? If I leave it on during the day will the drip tray fill up ?

The turn it off / Keep it on question. After the machine is at temp & used, If I rinse it and turn it off for say 3 hours, can anyone give an estimate for what their machine recovery time would be ?

Are there any models that have particularly low clearance under the portafilter ? are there any concerns about slightly larger cups such as a latte glass ?

I'll probably be getting a new grinder as well, Currently I use a Rocky with doser. Key requirements here would be
at least as good as the rocky
    easy to clean,
easy to remove beans from hopper, minimal waste.
low mess, ie isn't designed so the grinds miss the portafilter out of the chute. I'm tossing up between the OE funnel or Coffee Catcha to see if it help me in this space. Leaning towards the Catcha.

I'm in Perth, Is there a store with different models on display ?

Not in any rush, just starting to look around.

    Adam.

After 2-3 hrs most domestic sized machine s will have cooled off to near ambient.
My Isomac will get up to working temp in 15-20 mins.. ..or less with some vigorous flushing !
