This one in today- the mushroom from an ECM Giotto which lives in Geelong. Regularly serviced but run on local tap water- and yes they lather up no problem in the shower

Hmmm, regularly serviced!!! how regularly? I run my Bezzera on SA tap water (reputed to be some of the worst in OZ) descale every 6 months, sure I get a few spots of scale on the mushroom but nothing remotely like this.

    Yes- agreed!

Regularly serviced by a mob local to the owner- who clearly never checked for scaling

Seems unfortunately common in the industry that a 'service' is not actually a service - if you do a proper service on a Giotto you will be pulling the group apart to change the seals inside and lubricate the lever cam, so the mushroom has to come out. If a tech took the mushroom out and didn't clean it before putting it back in, they should just hang up their tools and go get another job.
