Its official, scientists from the University of Naples tell us that to get the most flavour from our coffee we should be gulping it down and not sipping.

Another fail from me, I'm a sipper from way back, not doing very well this morning.

Depending on how I feel, I like to down my espresso's quickly without over thinking it and then think about it. But what about slurping for cupping? If we gulp every sample then we wouldn't be able to spit it out and we would be over caffeinated in no time!

Speaking as a french-press drinker, I'm all for careful sipping.

    Would they know?

Yeah, "sipper" here too. Fortunately never very much influenced by what researchers are reported as saying in newspapers.

So, who here actually gave it a try before discounting the idea?

I'm a happy little gulper. Seem to get a nice big bomb of flavour. Thought it was just me so thanks for the link.

I do both depending on how I'm feeling and how much time I have for the caffine injection. I personally enjoy my espresso by sipping but if I'm in a hurry I'll just throw one down.

Most people enjoy the whole experience of coffee sitting with a cup and relaxing. Gulping is not conducive with an enjoyable experience, it's more like somerhing you'd do with medicine. That's my 2 cents.

I spend a fair while preparing a lovely coffee for hubby and I, we finally sit down together and he gulps it down like a labrador. It's annoying because I want my coffee to be savoured. I spend a fair while drinking mine, but each to their own I guess.

Yes. I'm afraid mine is often gone by the time I finish preparing Mrs sbm's. So I often find myself having to just sit and watch her drink hers!

Should make it easy to give him his worming tablets then.

Haha. Yes he's good with tablets, I don't even have to wrap them in cheese

I'll let the experts be experts but I don't think I'll be gulping my espresso any time soon, it won't last long enough!

Always good to get Yelta's snippets from the on-line press. There are always amusing links to follow up.

In this case........ the one on '15 predictions that were wrong' ; choice!

I tried it today. I reckon that it works. I've been finding that my ability to taste and smell coffee has been diminishing over the past year or so (over saturation maybe). A big, slow gulp seemed to result in more discernible flavours, which developed over a few seconds, and also lingered longer afterwards.

    Worth trying.
