    New espresso system ?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Just a note for information .....or maybe a warning, to folk considering buying one of the Nespresso machines.
Nespresso have just launched a new process and capsule system totally different to the existing one.
Called the "virtuoline", the capsules are bigger and vary in volume for different blends ( up to 15+gms in some ) .
also the extraction process involves spinning the capsule ? (7000 rpm I was told ) , for some reason, and the machine reads a code on each capsule as it is loaded, to set the best extraction parameters... Volume, time, temp, speed, etc.

....what are the odds that the machine reads a code on the capsule that also stops the machine working with generic substitute pods?

Marketing hype...It will still be overpriced, stale coffee regardless of how many times you have to spin around to stomach it!

I'm yet to try a Nespresso that doesn't taste like dirty bath water.. I think I'll stick to pulling shots.

I'm yet to try dirty bath water, but in the interests of having a standard I might give it a shot tonight.

As much as a despise nespresso, it could be an interesting idea. Turning the capsule into a centrifugal pump perhaps?

there is a video on youtube somewhere showing it

it basically spins the capsule during the extraction process to produce more "crema"

Ha!....the "long black" I tried ended up with 200 ml of black liquid topped off with a equal volume of " faux crema"...!

True to my word, I had a go. Crema very pale, as was the shot, hit the back of the palate, tasting like Radox. I'll definitely avoid the pod stuff.

That was the bath water, I dare not touch the pod stuff if it tastes similar.

Every time I have crap coffee I feel a little bit better about spending twice as much on my gear as on my first/only car...
