Maybe silly but Is this gauge broken if it rests in this position?

    G'day "kasta"...

With the machine turned Off, when you raise the Group Lever does the gauge pressure move closer towards zero?

    Hi Kasta,

What you see is completely normal for almost all VBM machines we have ever seen

When bench tested, your machine should have been set to deliver 9Bar at the group. You will probably see around 10Bar indicated at top pressure.

    Worry not....

So, it's a gauge which displays (approximately) absolute pressure?

It should zero without pressure. Not sure of the configuration of the source of the gauge but I would have thought the one bar of pressure would dissipate over night. Try activating the group with machine off as suggested and see if it drops to zero.

    Cheers
