Mains voltage on BES870XL body when powered off

Got a small electric shock the other day from my coffee machine while cleaning.

I turned it off (but still plugged into the wall and wall switch on) & put a multi meter across various parts of it and didn't read anything at first... until I put the probes on the metal covering the group head/grind head and then any other part of the body -- 230 volts.

At times, the voltage is 50-100v. Several times I've seen it at 230v.

If I power on the machine and measure, there is no voltage anywhere on the body.

The machine is out of warranty. Just wondering what can be done about this? The machine still works perfectly... except for the fact that parts of the body are electrified. The parts highlighted in red in the photo shows parts of the machine are live.

Unusual, never seen that happen before. I would stop using it and take it to a service centre as soon as possible.

The earthing of the individual metal components in these machines is linked together with one earth wire. Two wires are terminated onto a ring terminal affixed to the component then the trailing wire runs to the next component etc. etc.
If there is a break somewhere on this wire coupled with an electrically leaking element on the thermoblock perhaps then these parts could go live. Being that they are no longer connected to earth your RCD doesn't trip.

The 240V components in this machine are triac controlled rather than relay controlled so a faulty triac could be at fault. I would suspect a new control PCB and/or new thermoblock and rectification of the earthing problem would be the repair steps. That's a guess based on the fault but being as I've never seen this before it could be better/worse.

We haven't heard from breakaway since that post, hopefully he has taken noidles advice to take it to someone who knows what they're doing.

Turns out the machine is still under warranty... so I'm taking it back tomorrow.

Machine is now fixed -- some sort of wiring issue "manufacturing fault" apparently.
