Is 3rd party Nespresso capsule any good?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I am asking about those capsule from local bean roaster not the one from Nespresso.

I am currently having grinder and a twin-boiler machine, but thinking switch just for the reason of convenience.

Although I won't consider myself a pro, but most of time I can pull a shot comparable to some good local cafe.

I probably won't expect Nespresso+3rd party capsule will come close to my current setup but I am willing trade for convenience as said earlier.

I'd like to ask your comments/thoughts on the idea? Thanks

If I was to use a pod machine I would opt for the reusable capsule pods that you can fill with your own freshly ground coffee. I can't imagine 3rd party pre-filled capsules being much better than the Nespresso ones due to pre-ground coffee getting stale in short time.
I haven't tried any 3rd party capsules though, I may be wrong.

"reusable capsule" sounds a great. Just not sure whether it is feasible. As far as I understand that Nespresso machine punch the capsule when extracting. Even there is such thing, I still can't see myself going down that path. As this simply means there are extra steps comparing to just ground and extract in my current workflow. All I want to a simple/quick solution for morning rush.

I will imaging it takes even longer for Nespresso from ground the bean to ship the capsule to consumer comparing with local supplier. Besides, you actually has no chance to choose the manufactory batch. Yes pre-ground coffee getting stale fast, but this exact the reason buying from local supplier. Your opinion? Thanks

Unless they fill the capsule when you buy it and you race home and use it straight away it will be stale. Ground coffee does not maintain its quality over the course of a few hours let alone days.

There are a few types of reusable capsules, you can search sealpod, mycoffeestar. Some of then can be reused for a limited time, others (the stainless steel ones) can be reused virtually .

They do require you to get the grind and tamp right so no, it won't make you work less.

Ground coffee gets stale in hours if not minutes. But give it a go, you might be able to taste the difference compared to the nespresso coffee.

Seal pods work well. Worth a look. Allows you to fill pods with whatever roasted coffee you like and the stainless capsules last forever effectively. Just need to use the sticker lids to seal them.

Agree, but put this point in perspective. I am comparing days from local supplier v.s. months from Nespresso. However, maybe you are right that once it is over a few hours, days or months probably doesn't matter any more.

Thanks roburu and snedden9485 for your input.

I did some research online. I found this method involves more work than my current one. Kind of defeat my original purpose.

I, kind of, decided to try out Nespresso + local sealed capsule and will report back how things comparing with Nespresso capsule.

    Thanks again for your inputs.

    Agreed.

It may be worth mentioning that Caffissimo produces their own capsules (if one of their cafes is situated near your location). Obviously you'd want to pick them up on the day of sealing if possible.
