    Domus Galatea - extraction question

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,
got myself a Second hand Bezerra domus galatea recently and am loving it. Will take it in to be serviced soon, but trying to get a hundred cups + out first.
using a naked to try get my technique right and found using the wooden skewer, tapping and a bit of wdt seems to eliminate most channelling and squirting....but, lately i am noticing the volume flow rate starts to decrease and continues to decrease significantly after the 10-15 second mark. Is this a sign of something not right? I thought you more experienced guys might be able to help with what this may be, as my experiences have been that the flow rate increases slightly and then stabilises.
my grinder is a Anfim KS.
    Thx, Mal

Evening Mal, congratulations on the Bezzera, great machine.

I could offer advice, however if the machine is in need of a service it may be wise to have this done, then try to get your ducks in a row, difficult to get good results from a machine that may need attention.

Once you know it's right I can get you pulling great shots pretty quick smart.

As a matter of interest how old is the machine and where are you located?

Here's a link to a clip explaining the WDT, as a matter of interest have never had a reason to do this sort of thing with my Galatea.

I believe it is about 7yrs old. Apparently serviced regularly and recently. I am in Brisbane. Rang Barazi today but no time for servicing before xmas, so i'll wait until after xmas. Yeah, i like the KISS principle, so however i can simplify things i am all for it. I will post the serial number when i get home. Internally it looks ok. I did do a low flow pump water pressure test with an uncalibrated gauge, and it went to 11 bar. Steam Pressure cut in and out on the machine gauge is 1.1 to approx 1.25

I too have experienced the same as Yelta. Never had to wdt with the Galatea. With my R58 I do. I'm not bothered by it but the Galatea pulled some absolutely effortless god shots. Enjoy your new toy. I'm sure it will go on a long time if you treat it right

My machine shows 12/2/2008 as the del date. And after watching the wdt method, i realise that is not what i'm doing. I am simply stirring with a bamboo skewer the first half grounds as it goes into the basket. Then using finger to sweep grounds toward the edge and sometimes with a slightly concave surface. So now experimenting by moving the portafilter more while filling, and then 4 round the clock bumps to even a bit, then tamp. No tapping twith the tamp any more either. So i will try some grind and tamp pressure combos with that method and let you know.

So far, Extraction rate is pretty spot on and the taste is pretty bloody good. Just some spurting (not a lot). I am away for a week from tomorrow, so can't report anything until i am back.

Update is a positive one. I changed the head screen (because i had one, and the old screen had a warped/bowed mesh). Changed my fill and tamp technique to just giving a few wiggles and taps while being filled, then a few finger taps to try level it a little. Now, the visual extraction through the naked is spot on. Its kinda hard to stuff it up! Just playing now with the finer points of grounds quantity (i just volumetric the beans), grind size and tamp pressure vs espresso volume and taste. Lovin it! I would post a video, but too lazy! Thx for the guidance guys, always appreciated
