    Hey guys,

Anyone had issues with wet pucks sticking to the shower screen on their machines? I run 18g VST ridgeless baskets dosed at 18g and often have issues with the puck sticking to the screen and breaking apart when removing the portafilter. Generally im removing the portafilter around 10 seconds after extraction finishes. Any thoughts?

    G'day Snedden,

Is it possible your overdosing? Perhaps try an 18 gram basket from a different manufacturer.

Here's a thread http://coffeesnobs.com.au/brewing-eq...ks-screen.html discussing the problem a couple of weeks ago, no solution, however a few thoughts.

That is my exact setup, ie linea mini with 18g ridgeless vst dosed around 18g. Dont experience (ever) any pucks staying on the shower screen. I use a variety of coffees and roast levels. Show a video if you can?

Occasionally happens to me too. Linea Mini 18g VST basket dosed at 20g though.

Could try the included 17g LM basket and see if it ever happens in that.

Do you notice shower screen screw indent in top of puck ? (Assuming you ever get to see this without sticking ?)

Maybe a little imprint now and then, but generally not. I use a flat tamp, interesting that the supplied La Marzocco Tamp is a convex. I wonder if thats to increase clearance for the screen?

If your seeing (a little imprint now and then) I suspect your pretty close to marginal.

Why not try 17 grams and see what happens, if it flows a little fast grind a touch finer, as a matter of interest are you weighing the dose?

The 5 cent piece test is a pretty good indicator that the dose is around the mark.

I have an imprint every time (depending on age of roast I'll overdose to 24 g in a 22 g VST) and I don't have problems with the puck sticking to the shower screen

Same imprint here too. Which I'd assumed was from overdosing but maybe not.

Are we all talking the double spouted handle here or naked or a mix of both?

Happen to me sometimes as well. Often when I take portafilter out of the machine straight after the shot. Leave it there for few seconds and dosen't happen. Somehow get the best shot when it happens. hehehe :P

Hi Sneddon try lowering your finished puck height or in other words....
increase the gap between puck and shower screen (marginally).
Use your tamper's 'shoulder' as a guide to the finished level of your puck in relation to the top of the basket.

Yes you'll (probably) need to adjust your D/G/T (marginally) to accomodate this.
PS Be aware of 'consistency' when locking away the portahandle. It can be amazing how much pressure
some seem to want to apply.

Cheers guys. Dropped dose to 17g and all seems good again. Weird as ive always dosed 18g and it started happening a month ago. I always weigh in with Acaia Pearls.

It happens a lot on Strada's, it can be a result of the pressure releasing back through the 3 way valve and sucking the puck onto the shower screen. I wouldn't adjust my recipe to fix this if I like how the coffee is tasting.

The easiest fix, when you take the portafilter out, hold the portafilter directly under the puck and purge some water. It will drop into the portafilter without making mess.
