Im currently in the market of buying a new machine for home, i've been online a fair bit looking at used machines but once i narrow a search down anther contender seems to pop up. The latest is an ECM Classic, its in good nick roughly about 9 years old, new pressurestat, repaired control box and new hot water sensor. they want $800ono Does this sound like a good price? Another option which a friend recommended was the oscar II
Can anyone else suggest something different? my budget will go to $1300, i drink espresso when my wife drinks lattes, will be mainly used on the weekend and we have regular guests so machine will need to keep up with the short demand.
What grinder do you have? Does that bigger include a grinder?
I don't have a grinder yet but that additional to the $1300 budget
What's the grinder budget? I only ask because if it's $300 you'd be mad to spend $1300 on a machine. You'd be better off spending $600 in a grinder and $700 on a machine, for example.
$800 sounds reasonable for a 9-year old Giotto Classic in good nick but hard to judge just from your description. What sort of 'repairs' to the control board? I thought control boards were sealed units and if you have a faulty one, you chuck it and replace with a new one. Will you have the chance to try it out before buying?
Pricing sounds OK for a machine that fits your description. However if you are buying online without having seen the machine I would probably steer away from it.
It is very , very easy to spend $200, $300, $400, $500... fixing a second hand machine.
That $800 bargain soon becomes an expensive fix.
