    DVD Set "Black Coffee"

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi All,

I recently purchased this from my local ABC store - three discs of approx one hour duration each. Theres more information about history, marketing, equipment, etc than you can throw a stick at.

Unfortunately, the series is short on the one aspect I was most hoping for! The business of how they go about harvesting, getting the green bean, washing, sorting, grading, etc. There is of course *some* of this, but no where near the level of information I was after. Still, a really good buy.

Anybody else come across similar "documentaries" ??

    Hey There,

Black cofee is a great docco, but your right, not too much on the harvesting aspect etc.

Another good one is called Black Gold that I found online and downloaded. I am searching for it to purchase now! Its more on the Ethiopian Economic situation and how hard they cop it from the international markets. There are some great things happening there, and hopefully with their "UNION" they will be able to achieve some serious growth over the next 10 - 15 years!

When I did my course at the coffee academy at William Angliss in Melbourne, they showed a docco on the harvesting methods, washing methods (dy, wet, etc) but for the life of me I cant recall what it was called. It went into a reasonable amount of detail... More than Black Cofee anyway. Maybe drop them a line and they will be able to assist.

    Hope this helps!

    Steve

Go and visit a local Aussie plantation and see how they do it.Most of them dry process but I know of one who uses the wet process. He is right into his coffee.
Books, videos lecturers.........all one dimensional really.Anyone who is really serious about the beanshould get out and see, smell, feel and become part of it.....get some trees and plant them up.Or even better, buy some land and go for it on a bigger scale.

No,not pretending, but by succesfully growing a crop or two and processing that crop from plant to cup you would have a better understanding of the process. Then to better the results of the previous,.......more plants, higher altitude.....a few hundred stray cats that dont mind the taste of coffee cherries.......mmmmm thats got me thinkin.....

    Not absolutely true.
I can have an understanding of some things without having to experience them myself.
In this instance, I come in at the green bean stage and roast etc etc right up until drinking it.
What extra benefit will I get from growing and processing the beans?

I can strip and rebuild a car engine, but prior to actually doing it I could still drive a car.
I dont think my ability to strip and rebuild an engine makes me a better driver.

I agree that with some things theres benefit to be gained from experiencing them first hand, but for the moment I dont see how growing and processing coffee is one of them.

Confuscious say - man who ask simple question often get complicated answer.....

Would love to grow my own, but, well, totally out of the question given my block of land. The next best thing is to learn all about it, hence the question. Bad-a-bing-bad-a-boom !!

    Behmor Brazen - $249 - Free Freight
    Is this in anyway related?

    http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6146976

It says track 14 (of a DVD) is El Cafe and the notes talk about production of coffee.

But, if its only a track it must surely be only 10 minutes or so.
