Will a 20g VST basket fit a stock rocket r58 portafilter?

    Hi guys,

Looking to upgrade baskets to VST. I've currently got an 18g VST basket for my naked portafilter but have started using my double and single portafilter for drinks like picolos and really want to upgrade those to VST.

I love the idea of fitting a 20g basket in there but am not sure the stock rocket r58 portafilters can handle it.

    Can anyone confirm?

    Cheers.

    Hi Esky,

I have a 20g VST basket, and it does not fit in my rocket giotto double spout portafilter handle. Not sure if there is any difference between the giotto and R58 portafilter handles.

    Cheers, Dave

Hmm thanks Dave. I currently own an 18g vst and it seems to have about 4mm free space underneath. According to the VST website, the 20g has an extra 1.8mm depth so I would have thought it would work, but now you've got me worried. I've already ordered them haha. I even took out the 18g and put in three 5 cent coins then put the basket back in and it sat flush.

Hopefully someone else has the r58 and can confirm, but thanks so much for your time Dave!

I think the straight edged wall of the 20g basket will make contact with the tapered part of the PF before it can fully snap into place.

I'm having trouble even getting my 18g VST to sit properly. My baskets are of the ridged type so I'm thinking I need to use the ridgeless type. I'm just using stock basket until i can be bothered again.

Costas, are you using portafilters from the r58 also?

I managed to change my order to 18g VST baskets and they fit well. I'm pretty sure the 20g would have fit also. Towards the bottom they taper in slightly.

Mine are all ridgeless - that may be the difference. Maybe you should try ridgeless.. I feel they're better anyway, personally.

Yes I'm using an r58 as well. I have a 20g basket which is square at the base and that bad boy won't fit so i just use it on a naked.

With the 18's do you find the PF still locks in at exactly the 6 o'clock position?

The issue I have I think has to do with the retainer clip/spring and the ridge. When snapped in, the lip sits slightly higher which means the PF forms a seal earlier (7 o'clock). Its damaged the chrome plating on the lugs which i was fuming about....

Mine locks in really tight at about 5 oclock (has since it's last service) and the 18g VST is no different.

I would made. They're not cheap but I love my 18g ridgeless. That paired with a 58.3mm and 58.5mm tamper go really well. The 58.5mm is a perfect fit.

Once you get it sorted I think you will like the VST baskets.

I use them, and Decent Espresso baskets in my coffee machines. EM 6910, EM 7000.

    7gm, 15gm, 20gm.
