Newbie stuck endless no extraction loop

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,

I got myself a Oscar 2 with Eureka Mignon and all was good while I was using initially calibrated settings. The moment I changed grind for a new bean, things went downhill.

Yesterday, I put 350gm of coffee into the bin as whatever I tried I got no to very little extraction. I pulled one 30ml shot randomly but then next one on same settings failed.

Is there anything I can do to get my head around what might be going wrong?

I thought the shot timer might be to blame so I put that to manual mode too.

More beans on order. Hope I can drink some of it!

Do you measure how much coffee ground you put in the basket? And what basket are you using?

I use the double shot basket. I haven't weighed the grind but I've tried to slide my finger over (north south east west) to drop of excess and a gentle even tamp. All looks decent in basket. It is not really over filled or so. sometimes I can see the centre marker on the basket when I've tried to lower the dose to see if it works.

how fresh (when were they roasted) are the current beans vs the beans you were using with calibrated settings before?
that would effect it as well

Both beans were similar ages. About 4-7 days old. Slightly different roast type though, one drarker than the other.

Im using 19g on my simonelli basket recently dropped it back from 20g.
Maybe worth checking brew pressure. My musica was only getting 6.5 bar. I shimmed the non adjustable opv up to 9.5bar.

I think I got it. My lack of understanding of programming of Oscar 2 was the issue. New beans are just taking longer to start and timer was killing it off. All good now. At least I'm getting the hang of it after 600gm in the bin.

    Hi Garrus
Got the same machine and used it with a eureka Mignon and a Lido E grinder.
best thing I did was get a set of scales that measure in 0.1g increments and measure your dose into basket so you can keep one part of the dose the same. I’ve set the two programable buttons to 5-6 seconds and the olther to 50-60 seconds. I use the short timed button to flush the group after a shot to clean the screen off of flush prior if need idle for a while. I use the long timed button when pulling a shot as if it takes say 40 seconds to get the desired shot weight out (I weight dose in and shot weight out) I doesn’t worry me as it the taste that matters. Depends on the coffee and grind size but some shots take 25seconds and other 35 seconds. If the double shot button is set to 30 seconds it will stop the shot before you’ve got the desired weight out as you have found out.
Good luck and good to hear you seem to found the issue.

    Thanks all for the responses.

Mb21, thanks for the programming tip! That makes sense.
At least I'm out of the no extraction loop
