Interesting article. It looks like the coffee makers will still keep stockpiling it, but not by government mandate. I think Iíd surrender pretty quickly if I was under siege and ran out of coffee!

I donít like running out of food at home. One reason I like home roasting, is knowing Iíve always got a month or two of green beans ready. I get nervous if Iím away on holiday about whether Iíll have some roasted beans at home in return!

I understand your concern! First time I froze coffee was when i went on a months holiday and froze a kilo i had roasted just to be sure when i got home.

Reading between the lines the coffee companies are getting government funding to put a nice buffer in their supply chain, I am sure they like it. I am sure someone like Andy has more than three months buffer, but not funded by the government.

Well, don't call me a "prepper" but a quick count at the Snobbery and I think we have closer to 6 months buffer from WWIII and that's only if I share it with you lot. If I batten down the hatches while Mad Max is running around outside then I would have a Fort Knox equivalent in bean currency to sell to the caffeine deprived zombies outside.

We have held a lot of beans in rotation for quite a while, it buffers the availability and crop cycles. It's tricky (and expensive) to get right but the benefit of stable blends all year round is great both for my commercial roasted customers and green bean buyers too.

"In the event the mandatory stockpile is eliminated, the government said it expects importers that are freed from the fee to pass on any savings to coffee consumers."

    That's pretty optimistic!

It might not be "essential" but I think most would agree that it is the top of the "non-essentials".

Good plan. How's the CoffeeSnobs bunker looking Andy. Do we need to reserve our place now?
