    We just had it Wired.

    Could it be that you?
    a) drank it too fast
    b) missed the BeanBay with a wrong email address
    c) fell asleep due to lack of coffee

    Pick me, pick me...

Since Wired used the adjective? "more",

my guess is that he drank it too fast.

Could well be. From memory Wired didnt get the last one but bought the one before that (in vast quantities).

Some people just know what they like!

I havent had any Sumatran Mandheling since last year and was devastated that I missed the last offering.

There is no other bean that is as versatile for SO, blend, espresso and milk based coffee. (ducking for cover! ;))

Yep I agree I think it is a great bean and really versatile.

Thankfully still got leftovers from 2 separate beanbays. Missed the last one unfortunately.

This ripper of a bean hasnt appeared for quite a while, so I thought Id revive the call for it to appear on BeanBay :)

Blue Batak is one of my all time favourites (hint, hint, grovel, grovel, Andy ;))

I spose this months impending Bay offerings as an inclusion would be [s]impossible[/s] not too much to ask for? :D

Not this month Tony and I doubt it will be the Blue Batik... there are far nicer Indo beans around. The last Aceh for example killed the BeanBay in the cup!

hmmm, havent tried the Aceh - I was under the impression that better quality Sumatran beans tended to be from Central & Southern regions rather than the North, Andy? :-?

Or is it more the case that this particular recent batch of Aceh was unusually outstanding?

If its offered again, Ill definitely indulge :)

    Re: Sumatran Mandheling

I believe it is due more to the quality assurance measures that the various processors have in place more so than the area itself Tony. I think the Aceh area (already known for excellent coffee) received significant input from various assistance packages after the tsunami tragedy to assist the farmers and processors get back on their feet.

A major proportion of this effort was(is) directed at improving what was there before, including the establishment of internationally recognised quality assurance measures aimed at maintaining and or improving upon the quality and economical aspects of the local coffee industry. The last crop, some of which Andy managed to acquire, is testament to the quality.

If any more of this bean becomes available Tony Id grab it.....

After roasting & cupping the Aceh you sourced Andy ... Im [s]begrudgingly[/s] in agreement mate.

The Blue Batak to me held a certain benchmark, in terms of adding rich rustic choc notes to a blend that sang.

4 days Aceh post roast (still kinda young), but it has a detectable intensity of choc bordering on aged rum liqueur thats noticably evident, & basically has a richer dimension beyond my experience with the Blue Batak

A definite quality rival to the Malabar to cut through milk as a blender, methinks.

    Yeah, Im a convert.

    Any left? :D

    Tony
