In search of a decent coffee on the Central Coast.

Just returned home from a 4 day jaunt to watch #1 son play in the national junior championships at Budgewoi just north of the Entrance and Gosford. We went to 4 different cafes in search of something drinkable. Two fairly efficient looking cafes on the Entrance foreshores - man I burnt my hands carrying those coffees out to the water playground where my daughter was enjoying the sun and water. Yuck very very hot burnt coffee. Two Shores cafe was next, a take away on Friday morning. Not too bad but not great. Around the corner from Halekulani bowling club there was a bakery where I was assured that I could get a great cup. Well off I strolled and secured two takeaways, double basket into a single takeaway cup - was I seeing right - yes but wait theres more. The coffee was spooned from a clip seal container and just shoved in the group. No tamping no levelling nothing. Surprisingly that was the best cup we found. Albeit not by much over the two shores coffee. We went back to TS prior to leaving for home and had a drink in. Tasted like lightly flavoured water.....Yuck. Oh well back to Mr Mazzer and his good mate Unico Splendor for a decent cup Saturday morning. (BTW all were cappas)

I dont venture that far north usually, but that sounds like pretty typical Central Coast coffee. Scalding, insipid and fluffy.

Kookaburra Express in Kincumber do a reasonable job, if you get the right person behind the machine. They use an Australian coffee, which I find overly acidic, but it cuts well through milk (which is usually textured quite well, again, if you get the right person). Terrible location- I understand it, as theyd get a lot of passing foot traffic, but its woeful as a place to go out to.

Other than that, a whole heap of cafes are starting to use Tobys Estate, so they tend to be ok, but nothing exceptional.
