You know your a CoffeeSnob when...

...your 3 year old asks if you have packed the coffee beans for your holiday....

...and not only have you packed 3 varieties of beans, you had also packed the trusty Breville (after looking at the Boema twice) to go on the houseboat.

The Malawai Maranga, Java Ijen and Decaf came along for the ride and we are sure glad we took it, the thought of instant for a week just didnt cut it. ;)

Even scarier when your 3 year old says: "Dad, Have you packed the laptop so that you can administer that loser CS site that you spend so much time on?" Instead of building me my own nuclear powered roaster!"

Andy, I am so envious. Having a coffee machine on board so the daily cycle of brewing isnt interrupted by a holiday is so cool. And the fare offered by non-metropolitan cafes is very dubious indeed. We go to a place where their "cupaccinos" --should run a mile when I see that spelling to start with; if u cant spell it, u cant make it--are based on a laughable espresso brewed in an urn as seen in the 1950s outback Australia. The steamed milk sits on top of the concoction, and they give you a quaint spoon with plastic handles. If only our machines could run on 12V Id be very happy to take mine along.

you *seriously consider dragging a 6kw generator, a 2-group commercial machine, a Super Jolly grinder, and your roasting equipment into the bush for a 4 day week-end just so you dont miss your fix. ;D :o ;D

I ended up not bringing it all along, but only because I couldnt find anybody to help me load the espresso machine into the van! :-/

Javaphile, if I had a 6kw generator I would not hesitate lugging all the gear on board. My little 850w falls short of requirements, so Im stuck with using the stove-top brewer fpr the duration. I am sure there is a way, and my mind is constantly searching for it. Whats a holiday afloat if you cant have a daily espresso or two?

If I were on my own boat I would have lugged it all along with not a microseconds hesitation. Heck, had I been camping by myself I would have lugged it all along. Unfortunately I was with a group of people (all *serious technophiles mind you, we all met on computer BBSs 15 years ago) who seriously frown on any electrical/electronic device above a flashlight being present. Had I pulled out a 6kw generator I would have been tarred and feathered and then staked out and left for the turkey vultures. None of them have ever had a GOOD espresso in their lives and as a result Im subjected to the usual ridicule of the clueless.

As a result I am plotting my revenge. ::) ;D :o Im keeping my eyes open for a gas fired manual espresso machine and a manual grinder. No electronics of any kind in there! And itll use the same gas theyre using to run their stoves and lanterns! ;D ;D ;D Ill set it all up on a folding table I have and bring along some nice fresh roasted beans and by the end of the week-end theyll all be converts!!! MOAHAHAHAHA ;D ;D ;D ;D
