    Pioneer Coffee

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hey All.
i know i havent posted for a while but heres my first OFFICIAL post :crowd cheers:.

Today scoot and i went to yandina to visit pioneer coffee low and behold the coffee there was great i had a latte and ive forgotten what scoot had (must have been because i never tasted her coffee)

scoot chatted with jason for a while as i checked out the building. the coffee roaster was not as good as the one one we had saw in noosa at the costa noosa coffee place (by the mum got a little lesson on making coffe there (i think it was her first i cant remember)).

The costa noosa roaster had a giant bowl on it whereas the pioneer roaster had a smaller bowl (please someone tell me what it is). pioneer coffe was packed by the time we left which was most likely why we did leave but jason did awsome coffee, he alsp gave us a small tester the blednd was so rich in flavour and it lasted forever in your mouth.

SO i suggest you all get your butts over to yandina very quick.

    Re: Pioneer Coffee

The bowl is a cooling tray. Size is irrelevant....a bigger cooling tray just means the roaster can roast more coffee.

If you want to talk quality of the roaster, brands such as Yucel are basically your Hyundai roasters as an analogy. Some of the big boys of the roasting world are Brambati....their smallest roaster is 120 kg....all cast iron drum and made to order....unlike Yucel which has a stainless drum. The best roasters have cast iron which has the ability to retain heat and doesnt get affected as badly by draughts through the building.

Hi Harlen, Sorry I couldnt spend some time with you guys when you came but as you saw we started to get very busy. Our roaster is a 12 Kg, same size as Costa Noosas albiet using Davids analagy we drive the Ferrari and his the Hyundai. The Diedrich we have is a shop roaster so it is a bit more compact and quiet because its designed to be in a shop. Although at the end of the day the roaster (person) is the biggest deciding factor on quality.

    Re: Pioneer Coffee

Just to set the record straight with specific regard to comment above about 120 kg being Brambatis smallest roasting equipment.

There is the Brambati KS60, *batch size 60 kg, expected volume of production 180 to 240 kg per hour depending on what is being roasted.

    Price 97,000 EURO or *AUS $ 162,000.00.

That is the machine and cooling tray and flues alone. Everything else is an extra.

Plus freight and all landing costs, duty and GST.

There could be other smaller models made by Brambati, but I dont know about them.

There are other leading brand coffee roasting equipment manufacturers, generally the Europeans are regarded as the top, the Americans are recorded as the middle ground, and all others as the bottom of the pile.

For comparison a 70 kg American Dietrich brand roaster, the basic module as above, is *
US $ 98,000 or AUS $ 111,000.00 plus all landing costs etc.

As PR indicated however.."at the end of the day the roaster (person) is the biggest deciding factor on quality. .".

Great to see CS people visiting our site sponsors. I too would like to visit Pioneer Roastery and reading the above would try and make it a time when I can actually talk to the main man.

    Good on you PR.

Does anyone ever organise group CS trips to visit and talk to our Site Sponsors?

    I know!

Its also just long enough that Ava starts cracking up about being in her carseat (and shes very good about being in the carseat!)

Its a sign of my dedication to quality of life!!! Luckily we also have friends in Brighton where we take a pit stop on the way home.

As my husband said recently when we were planning our next Spirithouse gathering... "a 300 Km round trip for lunch!?!"

    Me: "so?"

    Re: Pioneer Coffee

How about all interested parties hang on for a bit until Jason can identify a range of dates that will accommodate the needs of his business and his family life, after he gets back from holidays. We can then post up a notice under Coffee News and Events..... 8-)

With insider trading knowledge I can truly say you will have a great time at the Roastery. Jason always has 3 grinders running with separate rotating blends and a lesson with Jason while he is roasting will open your eyes... and your taste buds.

I do however admit some slight bias, Im being payed to use their 3 group ECM Michelangelo at their airport store ;D

Hey Pat, what time did you come through yesterday and what did you order? You should have introduced yourself so we could have had a chat and given you the little tour, glad you enjoyed the coffee.

I had a latte half milk - i was with the parents in law who are Dutch, at the time

Do I need to say any more?

I dont want to use the term difficult in relation to them as I may not get an invite next christmas, also we had a couple of rug-rats running around so i kind of had my hands full

but im usually up on the coast a couple of times a year so ill be sure to introduce myself next time we come through

    cheers,

    pat
