    Congratulations Greg and Robin!

The new tamper certainly looks like it was well worth the wait (and the teasing).

    Well done to Pullman inc.

It looks the goods Ive gotta say. I can see how this new design would benefit all, but especially those who work in the industry - it looks very well balanced and ergonomically friendly.

I think after buying the Botticelli this year I am going to need to wait until just after christmas before grabbing one of these puppies, but I will cope the best I can until then :(

Congrats again I think this has raised the bar again.

Andreas is still waiting for the one he Won in the competition several months ago. Does that mean he gets a new one?

Great looking piece of gear! And its obvious a lot of thought has gone into the practical use side too.
How does the barista compare size wise to the deluxe? Is it possible to get some side by side pics of the 2 tampers?

I deleted any photos i had with the barista, but I can tell you that with no spacers the two stand side by side at the same height. Obviousely adding in the spacers (for me, i use the mid-sized spacer) makes it a little taller (between 2mm-maybe 7mm taller). Doesnt sound like much, but in your hand it makes a huge difference to the fit and feel.

IMO, No spacers/shortest spacer is great if you like to fire your shoulder into the tamp (ie/ use lots of pressure), and the larger spacers are great if you deliver most of your pressure from your arm/elbow/wrist/hand. However, bench height would also come into this, im just speaaking from my experiences.

Congrats, indeed, Greg, this looks like the perfect tamper.

Just a question: will you still do custom engraving on this baby?

Having had a close to final build "prototype" on the bench for a couple of days, all I can say is IMPRESSIVE!

Once Gregs finishing touches are applied, it will be a brilliant tamper for me.

Tampers are however a personal choice and in the hand, you will know whether or not this (or any other tamper) is the one for you...

Just wondering, Andreas won a tamper with the 2000 member on coffeesnobs a year ago. He hasnt received it yet after several emails, so will he get the new tamper or last years?

Hi Brett, I think AndyL is referring to a 2000th member comp, not the 2000th tamper sold.

Then again, andreas appears to have joined in Jan08 so couldnt possibly be the 2000th member.

    Confusing! :-?

Yeah I used to be known as takeaim, was the bimillennial comp and thats going back quite a while, didnt remember it until we started talking about the new tamper at work.

Think Greg was between Perth and Adelaide at the time of the comp and as I was hoping to upgrade for a price to the checkerboard handle (already have a jarrah).
Think I had to wait for the new lathe or something to arrive.

Didnt really hear much more after that, as AndyL said, sent some emails but kinda lost track/interest when I was planning to sell my cafe.

Either way the new tamper looks suited to commercial use and would look good next to one of the mistrals.

    AndyL,

I have two emails from Andreas in February 2007, the first of which I replied to and the second of which I hadnt (for whatever reason I cant hazard a guess 15 months later). All I can presume is that since it didnt come through the normal order channels and I was in the middle of shifting house at the time that it unfortunately slipped through the cracks as it were. This is the reason we have formal order channels for our orders so this sort of thing doesnt happen. He certainly hasnt received the tamper which is a situation we definitely need to rectify and Ive contacted him about this, however I would have been more than happy to rectify this at any point in the last 15 months had it been brought to my attention.

I have a few other things to say about the tone and content of your post, but I will show you the courtesy of contacting you privately rather than posting inaccurate and possibly inflamatory comments in a public forum.

Re: THE New Pullman Tamper....at last!!!

Greg, I may have contacted you via as you say, informal order channels (via PM here) but that was because firstly, I wanted to find out how to get the tamper and secondly, ask about getting a different handle for which im pretty sure I agreed to pay for whatever extra cost - I also agreed to wait until you had handles or bases in stock and as such didnt contact you for some time.

When I did several weeks later it was via email, after two non replied emails I didnt take it any further because as ive mentioned, soon after I put my cafe on the market and thought id be getting out of coffee and not have a need for it.

If as you say my emails/PM slipped through the cracks fair enough - im happy to accept a tamper if its still on offer!

    Behmor Brazen - $249 - Free Freight
    Hi Andreas,

Yes I certainly wasnt suggesting the channels you used were incorrect, apologies if it came across that way - after all, its not every day we give away a tamper to a CS competition winner! :) so the nature of it was inherently non-standard, however if everything had worked as normal the situation still wouldnt have arisen. The fact I dont have any emails from you after 27 February 2007 is one case in point; Im not sure where the subsequent ones you referred to went to but they certainly didnt reach my inbox; one email I might miss but not two or three!

Anyway to cut a long and mysterious story short, sorry for the mixup and yes you won it so youre still more than eligible for it in whatever combo you want. The only thing we discussed last time round was the choice of handle and base profile. Email me what youd like (perhaps PM me as well just in case theres an issue with emails not getting through from your account for some reason, lets cover all bases here ::)) and well go from there.

    Greg
