Vacuum Food Sealers in Aldi for $99

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
If youre looking for a sealer to seal your vacuum bags for that extra airtight..ness ;D I saw one in Aldi yesterday for $99.

I know nothing myself about sealing coffee bags,..but I presume this would do the job. No idea whether this is a good price for one of these either,.. but here it is Vacuum Food Sealer

Looks like these have been on sale since 22 May so its possible they may have sold out in many Aldis,.. however there were tonnes at the store I went to in the ACT.

Its definitely a great tool for meat cooking. Simply place the piece of meat in the bag and seal, and cook in a water bath until internal temperature is what you want. Then simply sear the outside to finish.

How do you test the internal temp without breaking the seal?

Physics. I dont have formulae, but you can calculate how long it takes to get to the internal temperature you want, given the mass and stable water temperature. Im sure a molecular gastronomy book states it somewhere :P

Are you meaning to use one of these for sealing coffee bags which have the one way valve etc?

I am not sure they would generate enough heat to seal the end of the bag.
I have a bag sealer and from what i can tell a fair bit of heat is generated in the sealing of bags, generally done by running current along a wire underneath a specific material, clamping over the bag material seals each side together.

When i was looking at purchasing my bag sealer last year i enquired from the seller who sold both types of system and their comments were that the unit of the style from Aldi wouldnt seal coffee bags.

Possibly 2nd hand but brand new i dont think so.
Price relates to size or depth of seal, length of seal which then dictates what size bags you can use etc.

I got mine off evilbay for about $190 plus postage, when it arrived i couldnt believe how flimsy it looked. Once together its ok but no where near the quality of the one my professional roaster uses.

You get what you pay for in all things.

My dad used to own an industrial sealer until it got sold cheaply (read probably $100) in a garage sale without him knowing. At the time it was worth around $1500 second hand. DOH :(

Getting a bit off topic but anyway. He had a company that developed a device called the icelock a security dongle for the pc (since been replace by usb security dongle) that would only allow an authorised application to run when the device was plugged into the serial port. In its day they were in quite high demand and each one would have to be sealed in its own bag prior to being shipped (so it wasnt used for sealing things in the kitchen but an industrial application). We had quite a lot of neat equipment from that business venture most of which is now gone - unfortunately cause alot of it would now be incredibly useful for me now. Ohh well what can you do

Re: Vacuum Food Sealers in Aldi for $99

I have used a couple different brands of the home style units to seal coffee bags with. Neither were really up to the task. If the coffee bags were really thin then they would probably work OK. All of the one-way valved bags Ive used/seen were too thick to really be properly sealed by the home units.

So I turned to that large body of evil water and there upon its shores I found many and varied an impulse sealer. All shapes and sizes, all forlorn and looking for a new home. The pirates were about and many were snuck away in the dark of night for but a mere pittance. Gone. Gone to their new home. Where, knowing that they are indeed the perfect tool for the task, they could once again bask in the warmth of a well sealed deal and the admiration of their new owner.

There are some goodns around in the bay of evil, some more suited to industrial use than home use and if you spot one of them going for a reasonable price (brand new), it will last you a lifetime of domestic use.... Kind of the same logic we use for buying commercial grinders and espresso machines ;D

I think mine is the same as yours TG having seen yours in the background of a photo you posted recently; built like the proverbial sure comes to mind ;)

    Behmor Brazen - $249 - Free Freight
    Simple and solid.

It was brand new but no bargain.
It was cheaper than Id seen elsewhere but it came with no spares.

I didnt want to wait and as it was immediately available I was happy to take it.
