Am I doin it right? (pic)

Ive gotten my shots to a point at which I find them most definitely not undelicious. I was wondering, however if I could improve it. I think Im doing most everything right so heres a pic of my cup and perhaps one of you experts can see room for improvement. Its a fresh Ethiopian single origin.

Nice looking coffee pingu - the cremas a bit broken up and a bit bubbly which could indicate that the coffee has been marginally over-extracted

But it could also be that the coffee beans themselves are a bit past it. How many days post-roast are they? Also that patch of dark brown in the top right hand corner suggests that the coffee might be a bit burnt

But really, all of this is academic. How does the coffee taste? Its whats in the cup and on the palate that really matters!

    Hope this helps

    That helps a lot, thanks.

The beans are two days since roast apparently, I didnt know bubbles meant too much.

It does taste great, I suppose I just want to be able to read crema a bit better and make sure Im not doing anything terribly wrong.

    Looks pretty good really.
If the beans are just 2 days post roast, then the bubbles are probably because it is still a little young.
If the beans last a week, youll probably notice the crema settle down a bit.

The dark brown in the corner might just be a shadow too.

But if it tastes great, you know youre doing something right!

The general rule is to leave the roasted beans rest for min 2 to 5 days depending on the bean type
Also to be consumed up to 20 and 30 days or staleness sets in

As long as its a pleasure to drink? thats all that matters

    Pingu,

Ethiopians sort of need roughly about a week to rest. As my second fav bean, I find that around about this time and maybe to a week and a half it brings out the best in them.
