    Re: Brazil Daterra

Datera is pretty much a coffee processor and they produce a whole range of coffees from different varieties of plant and sources including a range of green blends.

Some of their coffees are overpriced, not very interesting but very well marketed, *some of them are specific varieties, graded well and good in the cup... you have to select your Datera with care as "Datera" itself is not a guarantee of quality (as I have found). * *

The Datera coffee that David used was one of 5 different ones on the current market and I expect was used as a base to a more interesting bean (which is the typical use of most Brazil coffees).

KK- There is every chance that if your drinking a Brazil called "Premium Bourbon" you have already tried a couple of different Datera bourbons *blended with a couple of others that are not Datera. *
The sum of the parts are greater than...
    ;)

I dropped into Pioneer Roastery on the way back from Fraser Island last week and bought half a dozen beans from Jason, and the Daterra was one of them. Roasted 300g yesterday, so will see how it tastes in a couple of days. He had lots of advice about the beans which I have promptly forgotten.

The doppio I had whilst there was yum!

    Cheers

Just to follow up on Andy and KKs posts regarding Daves use of Daterra at the WBC ...

Dave used the 2004 Vintage Reserve and Andy correctly surmised that it was there as a blend component.

We tried a number of interesting coffees that were superstars in their own right, but some of them didnt play well with others. The Rwandan Golden Cup winner, for example, made an extraordinary caramel and butterscotch cappuccino, but it was simply garbage when blended. The vintage reserve was rather one-dimensional and uninteresting by itself, but it really filled out the body and crema retention of the resultant espresso when blended with the El Salvadorean coffees.

    Cheers,

    Luca
