    Re: Ethiopia MOA Horse

Im guessing when you want 60kg of it!

I didnt think this one was great (but at the time I had no say in the purchase of it) and we have had far better grades of Ethiopian coffees since.

If there was a big enough ground swell Ill get it again but I think the concensus was that it was average at best.

....I could be wrong though. ;)

I second John on this one, the batch I received from the March 2005 polls was absolutely superb. *I have been on rations for a while after gorging the first 3kgs and could do with re-stocking.

    Re: Ethiopian Harrar "MAO Horse"

I found this to be a good blending bean but I note on Sweet Marias that quality varies a lot.

MAO means horse in Chinese by the way.

    Re: Ethiopia MOA Horse

I have to come out in defence of the Ethiopean Harrar, I am a huge fan of a good harrar. Yeah, it certainly is variable, which I recently discovered with some diappointment. But, alongside the Yirgacheffe it is the finest of the Ethiopeans (excepting single-estate Ethiopeans, which I havent yet tried).

The Harrar is a coffee treasure, and the closest thing to the Yemeni Mokhas that is generally available in Australia. With a unique cup profile (that it seems to share with Yemeni Mokhas), there is nothing like it anywhere else in the coffee world.

In my limited experience with the Harrar, at its worst it is "good", at its best it is superb and will give a Yemen Mokha a good run for its money. So, while I wont partipicate in a harrar poll in the near future (I have 10kg of "good" harrar to get thru), I have to offer my general support for the purchase of this spectacular coffee.

Lets just hope we pick up a superb harrar :)

    Re: Ethiopia MOA Horse

Didnt realise it had a bit of a following! *I bought 2.5kg when it was in the polls last, didnt like it, gave it 3 chances ... then I had trouble giving it away, I swapped it for robusta in the end which I find Im also not convinced about. *If only Id known about yall, it couldve gone to a good home.

    Hi JenW,

Just noticed the text below your avatar, namely " All low-end gear and nothing to impress you!". You know, it matters not what may or may not impress others.... if it impresses you then that is all that matters ;). After all, its coffee that counts and it doesnt matter how you get there ;D

    Cheers,
    Mal.

    Re: Ethiopia MOA Horse

I dont know whether MAO is horse in chinese, but the reason this coffee is labelled MAO is from the initials of the exporter in Addis Abbaba: Mohamed Abdullahi Ogsadey, who probably has the highest reputation among Ethiopian exporters...

    Re: Ethiopia MOA Horse

MA is horse in chinese. MAO means something else depending on the tonal pronounciation. Just my 2 cents.
