Obviously because my palate has not developed yet,
I cant actually taste any difference between using paper cups or ceramic.

but for you experienced CSers, what difference does it make?

Hi Afton- I would have thought that if you cant taste it, Id suggest that the answer to your question is a big fat zero....regardless of what others believe? :-?

As a purely take-away op Afton, I can vouch that good quality, reinforced unwaxed cardboard cups will not taint the coffee it holds.

Cheap & flimsy polystyrene garbage ... now thats a different story :P

A good quality takeaway cup should not taint the flavour whatsoever however it also doesnt hold the heat as well as a good ceramic cup (providing the ceramic cup has been heated sufficiently) which can affect flavour.

    Hi all

Often at a cafe if its late in the afternoon they put away the ceramic cups even for sit-in coffee. If I see there are no cups on the warmer I ask. If they are only serving in paper or foam I leave.

The reason is that a milk drink that is 200 mL or so will be fine in a paper cup but an espresso tastes horrible from paper or foam. It may be the taste of the paper or just a psychological signal that this tastes bad but I dont appreciate a take-away espresso.
