I use one of these to back flush

I take my shower screen off every few days (at least once a week) to give everything a scrub, and while its off I use a large plastic syringe to back flush the three way valve.

I just squirt several syringe fulls of hot cleaning solution through the hole in the group head and it flushes out the three way valve into the drip tray.

I leave it sit for about 20 mins and then use the syringe to flush again with clean hot water.

I then reassemble the shower screen parts and run a couple of cup fulls of water through the machine with the brew switch to thoroughly rinse everything.

Using this method removes the normal back flushing routine of switching the machine on and off a dozen times with a blind filter.
So the brew switch is getting cycled less and should last longer, and the pump doesnt have to be switched on and off as often, no doubt also extending its life expectancy.

    Wow!

Each to their own, but, a) a dozen times is about 7 too many; b) do you think removing the gasket over and over reduces its life expectancy? and c) if you cut down coffee consumption that would also reduce cycles, etc.

I say drink more coffee and be proud if you manage to wear out your machine!

That was kind of a harsh reply when all I did was post the way I choose to back flush.

Sorry Phil - it really wasnt intended to be harsh. Like I said (and meant), each to their own.

Ok, cool. It works very well and is a lot simpler than it sounds :)

    hi phil

if you removed the 3 way, and inspected the channel in the group, i think they would still be dirty
the cleaner needs time in contact with the oils to remove them, and with your method, i dont think there would be enough cleaner/hot water in the system to achieve this
