Whats with the daggy glasses? :)

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
In the pursuit of escaping my "green bean" status I have gone on the hunt for some decent latte and espresso glasses. Excuse my ignorance once again but whats with the glasses on offer? I came across the ever popular Duralex but I get visions of moustaches, wide leg pants and fondue when I look at them. *;) I then extended my research and discovered Bodum. More contemporary but me thinks they look sort of like those little tanks they place Bettas in (Siamese fighting fish). All other options seem to resemble the china you would use if inviting the queen over for tea. *:( Can someone recommend a supplier who offers a variety of contemporary coffee type "cups"? *

The Bodum glasses are great looking i have the medium size. Im going to purchase another pair and a pair of shot size glasses too. Although they are quite fragile.

There sure are some strange looking glasses/cups out there. I prefer the smaller ones cause a 250ml one is just too much milk or water for me.
My trip to Chiang Mai provided me with some nice espresso cans--the flat bottom mugs--in about an 80ml size. That may be a bit far for you to go.
I just bought a set of the Bodum shot glasses, and they are very good at keeping my ristretto hot until I have cleaned the machine and sat down. Yum.
I found a good source of Bodum glasses with a Google search--it came right at the top of the Australian pages, and they also have a variety of shapes and sizes.
My little lattes work very well in the 100ml duralex glasses here <-----, and I dont think they are too daggy.
Duralex does lots of different styles--my local coffee emporium carries a good range, as do some of the Italian kitchenware shops, so I recommend you look until you find just what you want.
I suspect some of the site sponsors would have a selection as well.

Dont some daggy glasses have specially designed curvatures and heat retention properties? *;)

It may all come down to just being an academic exercise. My wife saw me searching around on the internet the other day for some new glasses and made it very clear, in no uncertain terms using a few choice words, that I am not to replace her red Christmas "mug" that my 11 year old daughter picked up for her from GJs last December. It gets used every morning for her pseudo latte. *:(

I may still forge ahead and purchase something half decent for myself. The Bodum fishbowl has grown on me over the past few days (not literally) and has the heat rentention properties so I might pick up one, along with a couple of matching shot glasses.

Theyll look good sitting next to the red Christmas mug... :D

For lattes, I reckon you cant go past the Libbey Endeavour Rocks glasses as used by Veneziano. They also sell them. I think their original purpose is for whisky but they are thick enough to handle the heat more than sufficiently.

I use them too. There are two types going around Ive seen (and use both). Libbey Gibralter Rocks glass 237ml or 8oz. I also use the Libbey Endeavor Rocks that are 207ml, 7oz that have a cool 30ml etch which is quite convenient. I think "7 Grams" use them too.

They are super tough, Ive dropped them, hit them on conrners of the counter, theyre great.

I use the bodum thermo glasses you see everywhere. I bought a bunch of Nuova Point cups recently, and at the same time was given 4 bodum thermo espresso glasses and 4 matching latte glasses, plus about another 10 espresso cups and 6 ACF cups...I cant use that many cups but I feel bad if I put some away at the back of the cupboard because most of them were gifts I had a laugh..

I usually use the NP tulips for milk drinks and the mini bodum thermo glasses for espresso...
