    Re: BISCUITS and Coffee

I do like the cookie monster but I refuse to buy anything called a cookie.

Give me home made shortbread or a home made Anzac biscuit anyday.

    ;)

    Re: Cookies and Coffee

Biscuit came from the Greek word Biskoti
So biscuit it is the name for me

I still love the crushed nut shortbread biscuits covered in icing sugar that most Greeks make (as my wife is from Cyprus her recipe is a little different but still Moorish)

Goes best with strong coffee e.g short black, Greek/Turkish coffee ect

My favourites are the Neiman-Marcus $250 cookie". It might be an urban legend but the biscuits themselves are marvelous and the recipe works!

Coles bakery sell plastic tubs of double choc chip homestyle cookies. The are rich choc with both white and brown choc chips, and are just slightly chewy.

Actually Gronk, I agree with you on that one, they are very good with coffee, the only problem in this house is the kids snaffle them up all too quickly so when i get to the pantry theyre generally gone :(

Still cant go past the shortbread and even then i have to hide the packet away from the kids ;D

    Re: Cookies and Coffee

    An old thread but...
I just had the best biscuit to go with a coffee.
A "Snickerdoodle", i made them for the kids on the weekend. I actually thought they were a made up thing as they are mentioned in the kids film "hoodwinked" but found a recipie the other day in a book so decided to make them.

A basic biscuit base with cinamon and ground spices plus sugar.

Absolutely fantastic and i reckon it comes close to beating shortbread as my favourite.

    Oh...dont mention those! ;D

I dont eat biscuits but Snickerdoodles are just about my biggest weakness! I have a friend who makes them and its a special treat when she does! (and theyre not to be confused with the rip off product from the Beechworth bakery... ::) )

Yes, my wife makes the best Snickerdoodles. she has recently inherited a 1970s womans day recipe book and lets just say they knew how to cook for taste back then.

My recipe is from the same era, had to convert it to grams from oz when I pinched it from Mother in law many years ago. Bridge Roughies were another favourite from the same book.

I think my girlfriend uses a Nigella Lawson recipe for the Snickerdoodles.

Hey Coffee Mum, do the Snickerdoodles just not last because they get eaten so fast or do they really not keep well??

My wife offers me the occasional chocolate Snickerdoodle *:D ....

Recipe comes from a book entitled "Gifts for the Cookie Jar" by Lia Roessner Wilson. They taste great, and the book shows you how to dress up a jar containing the ingredients to give as a gift to someone else. Good fun with kids.

    Not in any order:

    - My little sisters homemade Biscotti with lemon zest
    - Homemade Anzacs (chewy, not crunchy)
    - Dutch Bon Bons
    - Darrell Leas dark chocolate coated ginger

Cant go past a Tim Tam (or two).

Theres been a few votes for home made Anzacs here - Id never thought about those going with coffee so much. Now Im curious. Will have to get Mums tried and tested recipe and whip up a batch to try out this combination...

They are definitely all gone before they get the chance to go stale :) but I imagine they would keep for up to a week in a well hidden airtight container, as it is really only a variation on shortbread.

    My recipe is:

    2 3/4 cups plain flour
    2 teasp cream of tarter
    1 teasp bi carb soda
    250g butter
    1 cup castor sugar
    2 eggs
    1 teasp vanilla essence

Coating: (I double this, rather than skimp)
    4 Tbsp castor sugar
    2 teasp ground cinnamon
    2 teasp ground nutmeg

Cream butter & sugar, beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in sifted dry ingredients. Roll 1 teasp of dough into balls, then into coating mix. Bake on greased trays at 180C for 10 min or until lightly browned.

    Enjoy ;)

    Hi people
For us that are locked in to gluten free food; from the fridge at the supermarket, we get Aunty Kaths choc chip cookie dough, baked so they are hard and crunchy. Simply the best with a latte.

    Behmor Brazen - $249 - Free Freight
Im tempted to say that almost anything is great with a good coffee, however I suppose I find anything too sweet tends to distract the palate from the true flavours of the coffee somewhat - a bit like putting sugar in your espresso. So, maybe a crumbley shortbread is one of the better matches. (I do like a common old Arnotts Orange slice also)
