Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi There,
Can anyone shed any light on the green bean industry term of "F.I.S services" ? What does this stand for and mean?
Thanks for your help if anyone out there knows!

Generally I see that as a term of delivery - "Free In Store" as in delivery is free from them into the buyer.

Ive always understood F.I.S. to stand for financial information services perhaps to do with commodity trading??
Though, Dans explanation sounds more logical in this context.

Being an ex-banker I know what you mean.

I think I know where the OP saw the phrase and if you google, keeping in mind Dans definition, youll find a few (vague) references that back him up.

Yes, we used to have prices quoted to us for bagged goods and FIS often means free in store in context of freight. Its partner in crime is FOB which is free on board and generally meant they will get it to your freight terminal at their end but sometimes meant they wouldnt charge you to fork it onto your truck at their warehouse.

FOB Ive known for a long time as I used to deal with a lot of import/export documentation for a large customer of the bank I worked at.

FAB on the otherhand is from the Thunderbirds.

Thunderbirds - isnt that the old TV show where the actors were so old and stiff that strings were superimposed after filming and everybody was allowed to believe they were puppets? ;)
