    Puck is Stuck

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Recently I decided it was a good thing to be able to sleep at night. In my quest, I changed from 3 or 4 double shot long blacks to using single shots. The good thing is my coffee making attention to detail is much better and the singles are actually much better than I thought I could achieve, and when I do have a double it is way better than what I was making. My problem is convincing the puck depart from the basket (only with the single shot basket, double one is no problem). It is the standard Rancilio Silvia single shot basket and I have taken to running a blunt instrument around the outer edge of the puck before attempting to knock it out, as otherwise, she no go. Probably no cure for this without changing baskets, but if there is, I would like to know what it is. Thanks.

Are you using a knockbox with a proper crossbar? If so, turn the PF over and give it a proper, manly smack on the bar... more than once, if need be. If not, I advise you to get one.

Not using a commercial style knockbox, the set up I have been using has served me well till now. I have tried giving the PF major impact on the current knockbox with no joy, so I believe you may have now pointed me in the right direction, thanks for the feedback.

I have a knockbox I made. I used a non-stick cake pan and I cut a piece of oak to slide over it to knock on. A knock box does not have to be fancy. A paint can with a piece of pipe over the top, with the pipe covered with a section of automotive heater hose will do. ave nearly bought a nice, commercial box, but mine is functioning fine, and life has its priorities.

Modification works. Still not easy to knock out, but do not need to resort to the fork now. The basket seems an odd design in that it flares in above the grinds so they effectively have to exit past a choke. Thanks for your input Randy.
