Aroma Coffee Festival - The Rocks, Sydney 2005

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    WELCOME TO COFFEESNOBS [smiley=beer.gif]

We are a group of guys and gals who are passionate about our coffee. One of the first steps to becoming a coffee snob is to source some of the world’s best beans and roast them ourselves.

You can roast in a pan, in an oven, in a $20 pop-corn maker, in a BBQ, with a $20 heat-gun or you could be like some of the inventive members that have made and adapted their own equipment.

Have a wander around the forum, you will find plenty of posts about home roasting techniques and within no time you will be roasting the best coffee you have ever tasted. If you get stuck at anytime post a question to the forum and one of the experienced members will be happy to point you in the right direction.

    Enjoy,

    Andy.

Hey Andy, nice to see you out there today pounding the sidewalk. I was amused by peoples reaction to the idea that you could actually roast your own beans. Perhaps next year we could organise a CS (Sydney) get together at the Festival. Just out of interest... how many other CS (Sydney) people were out there today?

Yeah, great to see you too JD. Its was a great day out and aybe we could have a real CS get together next year. It would be great if we could get some power somewhere and do a few roasting demos too.

(its much easier doing than telling) ;D

It was great to catchup with JD, Sharkboy, Fresh_Coffee, Pinot, AJzCafe and 2muchcoffeeman. Also great to meet n greet so many other people on the day that I forget half their names.

Sydney really turned on the weather for the day and I think I even have a touch of sunburn.

Ill post some more pictures after I fly home.

    Andy.

It was slightly odd but very cool to put faces to names.

    Andy - The bean dealer

Fresh Coffee - Great bloke and looks younger in person *:)

2muchcoffeeman - Kept his cool under pressure... unlike the grinder. Thanks for the great coffee.

pinot - Did you end up finding the Latte art comp?

AJzCafe - Good to meet another Junior owner. Wish there was more chocolate.

Spyder - Your steam tip is coming soon to a mailbox near you.

A great day, but mostly due to the people, not so much the coffee. Tobys and Campos werent there this year. If they were there I didnt see them...
nu or Numero Uno coffee was pretty good and the coffee from Chris at Montes was top notch.

    Where were the Sydney CoffeeSnobs?

I had to go to Canberra to a family members birthday. I wish I could have been at the Rocks, though. I wasnt happy that I had to miss it, I tell you that much. :(
    But family comes first.

I had a great day :). Travelled up from Canberra for the weekend with the family. Really good to meet AJzCafe, Sharkboy (Fellow Diadema owners) and Andy. Weather was fantastic, atmosphere great and if you timed it well Queues for Coffee werent too bad.

Watching the Barista/Latte Art comp was also fun - some quite different styles on display :-?. Does anyone know who took out the honours?

    Hi Andy,

Looks like it was a great day for the festival :) . One thing I dont get though, how did you manage to lasso a passing iceberg to plonk your coffee cup on? Talk about influence ;D .

Looking for the all over results if anyone has a link, thatd be super.
Did anyone get anymore photos of the Comp?

Had a top day as well,

Took the whole family and met up with friends. What a superb day to spend in the city!.
Bough some roasted beans and the much needed decaf. One of my group even parted way with some hard earned for a Gaggia MDF. He even found out that his Gaggia Classic was a boiler model and not a thermoblock!. He now realises that he has a pretty good setup. I couldnt walk past the ECM stand without having a touchy-feel and a bit of a day dream:)

Have to say that being my first time it was a bit smaller than expected in terms of number of stalls, but the atmosphere was great. A very enjoyable day was had by all. I look forward to next year.

    Cheers,

    Matt

Yup, was there although didnt think to look here before going.

Couldnt get near the latte art championships (and those TVs should have been above head height - useless as they were!), plus there was no info online about when things were actually happening!

That aside, great day. A tad jittery now though ;)

I think we enjoyed the Tobys Estate coffee the most; although we didnt buy any to take home (silly of us) we did grab some Karmee (same as our favourite local cafe).

course everyone here will remind me that you should be roasting your own anyway ;)
