    Perth CoffeeSnobs Fairtrade Cafe Day

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Supreme Coffee Machines Saturday May 6th 2pm

    Hi:

This event is overdue. *As CS members in Perth will realise, we have had some great cafe days but just not enough recently!

It also Fairtrade Fortnight which runs from April 29th to May 9th.

Ben from Biobean Coffee has volunteered to be roaster and barista for this event and will give you a run down on what Fairtrade coffee really means.

I am really looking forward to this event and again, Peter Holton of Supreme Coffee Machines has kindly decided to let us in to his premises once again!

What does this all mean to you? *

Well, just bring yourselves (no coffee) and be prepared to enjoy some seriously good coffee and company!

Please Note: Ben has kindly supplied all his Fairtrade/Organic coffee for the tasting and will be barista

    Ahhh,
Not good timing for me as I have a 12:30 wedding with a 6pm reception that day.

I will try and fit in some cupping if possible but I might be about 30 minutes late. When do you think it will finish?

    8-)

Thanks for the replies. I think it will be a good cafe day. How long it will run for I dont know.

Most likely I would say about an hour to an hour and a half.

The Biobeans Coffee is excellent, we drink it at work every day.

Ben is supplying his own Fairtrade Organic coffees for the cafe day which is very generous and he will be operating the La Cimbali espresso machine.

All you guys have to do is enjoy the coffee!

Re: Perth CoffeeSnobs Fairtrade Cafe Day

Peter Holton of Supreme Coffee machines here in Perth once again volunteered to host one of our Perth Café Days for Coffee Snobs. *Peter has a great business here in Perth on Great Eastern Highway. *He sells a range of equipment including Rancilio and is distributor in Western Australia for the prestigious La Cimbali machines, amongst others. *The best feature is a La Cimbali espresso machine which is always ready to make a welcoming cup of espresso.

Ben is owner of Biobean Coffee here in Helena Valley Perth. *It is a great little business and he produces outstanding coffee. *The range of coffee is exclusively Fairtrade and Organic. *The range is deliberately kept small but I think that there is plenty to choose from including decaffeinated. *Have a look at the website www.biobeancoffee.com.au. *Bean volunteered today to not only supply the coffee but to make it for us as well. *I was pleased as I knew that the coffee would be made just right. *As a bonus I could just enjoy the coffee and the company!

The day went extra well with a number of new faces and surprisingly many old faces not there, except my old face of course and , Willem…

Seriously, I will have more of these café days as it seems everyone who attends enjoys it so much. *I will make amends by having another café day at my place coming up in about a month.

Ben from Biobean Coffee brought four coffees, the Peruvian Femenino, the PNG and East Timor Arabica and the Peru Penachi Decaffeinated for the tasting.

Ben has had some practice lately playing Barista at the Recent Fairbridge Music Festival near Perth. *He was responsible for keeping people awake all night, pulling about 3000 espressos over the weekend. *Hey, I guess these festivals are full of drugs like caffeine… :)

The coffees were all excellent. *My favourite is probably the Femenino which is evidently grown and only handled by women. *Hey, Ben did your Mum roast this? *Well, let’s hope so. *Fortunately, it is acceptable for this coffee to be consumed by men. *Maybe we will see a Peruvian Macho coffee grown and handled only by men soon?

Ben tends to take most of the coffees to the point where oil develops on the bean. *I was previously against this practice but after drinking his coffee for the past month or so at work, I have changed my mind! *I have in fact started to change my own roasting to go into second crack and get some oil on the bean. *Anyway, the proof is in the cup and it is great coffee no doubt about it.

Ben discussed the Fairtrade and Organic terminology and what it means. *What it meant to me was a great afternoon of coffee drinking followed by an elevated heart rate. *Fairtrade to a farmer means not only a reasonable living but also more money for the farmer to produce a better coffee. *Organic means a more healthy product and less undesirable chemicals in our bodies (present company i.e. caffeine excepted of course).

Thanks again to both Ben from Biobean Coffee and Peter from Supreme Coffee machines for giving us Coffee Snobs a great afternoon out. *It was much appreciated.

    Michael:

My pleasure although I just sat there and drank coffee. Ben did all the work.

I will organise a day at my place soon and hope to see you then.
