Veneziano Caffe is proud to announce the opening of our retail showroom, the First Pour. *We feel that we have created a funky space where we can share our passion with everyone, even though black, yellow and orange can be difficult colours to work with *;D *In brief, the First Pour encompasses an espresso bar, roast-your-own area with sample roaster, retail shop and a training room.
Join us this Saturday for our grand opening! *
9am to 5pm
26 Bond Street, Abbotsford
To celbrate, we will be offering all coffeesnobs 25% off all retail products (except for machines and grinders) and $10 roasts in the roast-your-own corner. *The $10 roasts will not include Yauco Selecto or Yemen Mattari, but we might have some on hand to cup up - depends if we finish it tomorrow ;P
Steve from Coffeelab Design has generously sent us two of his tampers to give away, so we will also run two competitions. *For the first, I will fill a jar with a blend of different beans, in layers, and the person with the closest guess will win a tamper. *The second will be a bit more straightforward - if you buy anything from us, send us a PM with "raffle entry" in the title and we will draw the name of a lucky winner from a hat. *Both competitions will end on the 25th of January.
A very excited Luca

Looking good there mate.... very funky
All the best for your opening on Saturday.... Would love to be there.
Bit far to come over from Perth for the day though..... but next time Im in Melbourne! ;)
Steves tampers. If you havent seen them before, check out some of his reviews.
Wow that wallpaper! :o
If you stare at it long enough does a 3D image of a coffee bean jump out?
Hey it looks great Luca! *[smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]
It nice to see some cool spaces popping up for coffee...
I cant be there either, but Im sure youll have fun.
Im going to have to make a trip to Melbourne next year just for some great coffee me thinks! *;)
Looks very funky indeed. Yet another reason for me to want to make a trip to Melbourne.
Forget the wallpaper, I think Veneziano did really well to get a La Marzocco with the same funky pattern!
Like wow, groovy baby
Thanks for all the kind words!
Turns out that we did finish off all the Yauco today, so we wont be able to cup any tomorrow. Maybe next Saturday.
Got the green beans sorted out:
That looks fantastic... when I next come to Melbourne I will have to pay you a visit.

Are you still getting the under deck lighting for the FB-80?
Looks like somewhere Id like to spend many an hour pouring, discussing, pouring some more.
Grendel drools at the green been chest of drawers and starts drawing up his plans. . .
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Thanks guys for the excellent service, the tour and the macchiato.
It was all awesome!!!
I agree, a great venue with a really good vibe and even my kids enjoyed checking it out.
Create your own blend and roast your own beans to take away should be a hit with those that give it a go too.
Congrats to Veneziano Caffe, its a great move forward for the Melbourne coffee scene.
Lovely to meet some new CSers and see some of the usual suspects again. This week has taken a lot out of me, but Im left with quite a sense of satisfaction.
I dont think that I have ever worked in a business that didnt have a rocky start, but given the frenetic activity of the last week, I actually think that it has run quite smoothly. Touch wood. And the best part is that it can only get better. Touch wood again.
Andy, your kids are just lovely! I cant believe that they were so well behaved, even after all of that travelling. Thankyou for making the trip. Pete and I were moved.I agree, a great venue with a really good vibe and even my kids enjoyed checking it out.
Thanks Luca & Peter on the coffee and informative chat this afternoon.
Your place rocks! 8-)
Congratulations to all of the Veneziano team for this innovative initiative for Melbourne. It looks fantastic and will no doubt become a hub for the Melbourne coffee community....
I am looking forward to popping in this week for a visit!
Yep, were still going to do the extraction spotlights for the FB80. Unfortunately LM couldnt do it for us because they needed to pony up dough and go through some testing procedure in order to be able to sell it in Aus. Given that few people would actually want that feature, we decided to do it ourselves. Well get the wiring diagram from LM and buy the lights and fittings here. For the moment, though, the light box behind the stainless cutout has been more of a concern:Originally Posted by Framey link=1166078440/0#14 date=1166192584
The first roast at the First Pour. Kenyan Masai AA. We have 13 origins on offer and will add more as soon as I have put dividers in the larger drawers. Ill also desktop publish some more literature for the area.
congratulations to you and the team! Photos look great and the write-up makes my mouth water...The chap from Perth said it was a little far for him, so given that we are in Connecticut, USA, I hope you guys dont take it personally if we follow along on CS and your blog (unless you want to send us an airplane ticket).
Keep up the good work!
My MacGyver like solution to let me see more pours.
LED light is very daylight like and seems a tad harsh but you get used to it. Fairly sure it is a luxeon 1 watt LED... I think.
This looks like deck lighting for the FB-80s / GB-5s.
That looks pretty cool, Framey! The WBC photo is exactly what were after. I dont know, but I suspect that were probably after a more yellow light. The FB80 chassis is one big bent piece of stainless, so we cant avoid cutting holes in it to fit the lights.
On another note, Pete has roasted up some Yauco Selecto for Saturday, so ...
12-1 this Saturday is Yauco Selecto Happy Hour
... maybe Ill french press it, maybe espresso ... havent decided yet.
What times/days is first pour open? Id love to check it out sometime.

First Pour is open weekdays from 8am to 4pm.
The preliminary hours for Saturday are 9am to 1pm, but I think that something like 11am to 3pm might be a little better. I am hanging around an extra few hours today to wrap up some work. What hours do yall think would be best on Saturdays?
We are closing on the 24th and reopening on the 9th.
I went and visited Luca and Dave at First Pour today. It was good fun. I got to pull a shot on the La Marzocco and take home some of Lucas secret blend :-)
I definitely think 11am-3pm would be a better time on Saturday. 9am is a bit to early to get out of bed.
Hi, i am new to this forum.
The First Pour looks great. I will sure go there to visit when i go to Melbourne.
How did the blend turn out? I finished it off through my La Peppina. I think that I put in a bit much robusta and the kenyan probably needs to be separated out and roasted darker. Through the Peppina it had a rich mouthfeel, the whole mandheling body thing, some berries from the kenyan and a bit of acidity from the same, but I felt that it was missing some sweetness and possibly some more action on the mid palate.Originally Posted by steve link=1166078440/30#30 date=1166871030
Hi Things,Hi, i am new to this forum.
The First Pour looks great. I will sure go there to visit when i go to Melbourne.
Look forward to meeting you!
A quick FYI for everyone:
First Pour reopens on the 8th
St Ali is open today (2nd)
Maling Room reopens on the 20th
I hadnt read through this thread, so I didnt know First Pour was closed when I dropped in to pick up some beans on the way home from Ikea last week. It was my first visit to Veneziano/First Pour. The door was open, Peter was around and he offered me a tour of the place which was incredibly nice of him. Thanks heaps Peter, if youre reading this at some point.
What a fantastic space, great atmosphere and a real service to the coffee drinking and home roasting community. It must be quite rare for a commercial roasting operation to be educating and encouraging people to roast their own.
After running me through the blends on offer, Peter rustled us up a couple of shots (Concordia?) which were, of course, fantastic (thanks again, Peter, for the hospitality).
I bought 3 bags of beans to take home: Veneziano Estate, Bella Vita and Makin Espresso. They are all beautiful blends but the one that blew my socks off was the Veneziano Estate. I will be buying this one regularly.
Congratulations on your opening, First Pour! Well done to the Veneziano team for setting it up and for producing such high quality coffee, and thank you once again Peter for the tour, the coffee and your time.
All the best,

Your blend was good (Mandheling is always good :-)) but I also thought it could have been it a bit sweeter. I probably need to try a lot more different roasts to be able to give a better explanation of the flavours I tasted.
I also loved the Veneziano Estate but it went so fast because it was popular with some visitors.
Congrats on finally getting it up and running! Looks like quiet a laid back but efficient workspace you guys have got there now, whats it like having the extra freedom to work with compared to the old factory?
Will have to get up there sometime and try some of the blends again, while the customers are happy with Forza Im tempted to get a kilo or two of something for myself. :)
Interested in going and checking it out there this Saturday. Are your preliminary Saturday hours in place (ie 9-1) or have you changed them?
Also do you guys have the Iberital Challenge in stock?
Hi there,Originally Posted by llama link=1166078440/30#36 date=1170933622
Our opening hours on Saturday are still 9-1. Im afraid that I wasnt forceful enough before they were printed on our door!
We have one ex-demo challenge in stock. It has a cracked hopper and we are prepared to sell it to CS members at quite an attractive price. New stock should be in at the end of next week. We only ordered the doserless models, though - didnt feel that the doser was particularly good quality.
Hope to see you around,
You have PM about the Challenge :)
