Sounds good. Look forward too meeting a few fellow snobs.
There are a group of us in SE Qld who hold regular social meets to discuss all things coffee. There are a good mix of domestic and commercial people who come along. Feel free to bring beans you would like share or any cool new equipment you have. We have on hand a number of grinders as well as a commercial 3 group old La Povoni. We just drink a lot of coffee, share a story or two, have a good time.
All are welcome, we meet on Sat 30 June at 2pm at Shots Coffee in Burpengary at:
161 Station Road
next to the IGA
Hope to see everyone there :)
Sounds good. Look forward too meeting a few fellow snobs.
Burpengary? Where the $%^& is Burpengary?
Im in Narangba, so Ill definitely be there.
While were on the issue, what is this Coffee Shots place? Since when did anywhere in the Caboolture shire serve good coffee...?
Its owned/run by a bloke named Nigel, a long time coffeegeek. Hes been planning this for quite a while and seems to finally have pulled it off. He roasts his own with a 2 kg roaster and bought a 2nd hand La Pavoni 3gr machine which he had refurbed.
Nigel is a really nice bloke and it will be a easy going occasion. There usually are quite a few industry professionals about as well, so if anyone wants some pointers or has some questions about anything coffee related, this will be the place to go. If Luke is going, then youll get to see some awesome latte art by the guy who made the Pioneer DVD.
I should be able to make it :)
If anyone wants to bring their home setup or roasted beans for any advice/help there will be plenty of able and willing people there.
What a great idea.
Im really looking forward to this already.
Thanks in anticipation to all the organisers.
see you there
Daveze, would only be 5 minutes from where you are would be worth while checking it out, what part of Narangba are you in?. As sparky said hes a nice bloke and can easily kill half an hour chating about coffee.
Half an hour? Try at least 1.5-2 hours.
A mate and I ducked out for 30min to get some supplies from Jaycar...dropped in for a coffee and a chat, kinda messed up the rest of the afternoon.
If theres any other local folk, Im planning to do my bit for the team and make a semi-regular appearance most Saturday mornings.
I am so definitely at the meet up.
Yep sure is..... Closer to 2 Hrs actually :o,
Where is Burpengary?

"Burpengary" lat=-27.162399, lon=152.9608 Sorry had to do that :-)
All I need to know now is if my wife will let me out :-) ... I would love to catch-up and chat.
Off-topic but I had a beer with my wifes uncle Gary at the Burpengary pub a few years ago while in QLD for a conference.
It amused me.
(even though he didnt burp)
Andy - even more amusing is the diner at Burpengary where if you can eat the truckies meal entirely its free!
How very cool...
Id love to go.
Andy you wouldnt be the first to be amused by "Burpengary" but I CAN see some all round hilarity at actually knowing a Gary who lived there.
On an unrelated note... "Humptydoo" is my favourite place name!
Josh, what time do you think you will go down there on saturdays might have to send pms around or post it on here.
Hmm sounds like the snobs will be there in force...
I have a good friend who hails from Burpengary, so Ive never given the name a second thought.
At one time I used to chuckle when I saw the name Phuket... but Im over it now.
saturdays? What time does he open on saturday, I would come round too.
8 oclock i think every day exept sunday his closed.
Saturdays are my sleep in day, so Ill aim to get there about 9:30 - 10:00 or so.
Ive been doing my best to spread the word a bit, so hopefully Ill be supplying a small to medium size crew...
Are we talking this saturday?
Im hoping to be there most Saturdays, because its very local for me and the Saturday morning ritual already involves driving somewhere for coffee (my sister works for Ferguson and Banks, reasonable coffee).
What Im semi-organising here isnt meant to be treading on the toes of the proper meet up on the 30th. Im just saying that Im hoping to go there fairly regularly, to show support for the first really good local coffee and because Im partial to a good coffee, particularly one thats local.
Anyone planning a special roast for this event? Im going to try and rack one up this arvo....
I roasted a couple of my favs on Friday
good to meet daveze today up there, opening hours on saturdays have changed to 8 - 12 nigel was telling me.
I missed out on a coffee but got some beans to brew up tomorrow. Just made it there on closing.
I have no roasting skills so i might have to bring something else. ?
is there anything we can bring? I normally take cakes to these sorts of things but theyve never been at an actual cafe before.
I have no roasting apparatus at the moment *sob* so I cant bring beans... but Id like to bring something to "contribute"!
Meg, If you would like to bring a cake Im sure it will not go uneaten :)
Im thinking i might make something chocolate that i like to eat with coffee.
Me too... we could have a chocolate-off :)
You can NEVER have too much chocolate!
Good to meet you too Jimmy. You just missed out on the Bezzera demo, we spent about 45min with the Bezzera and the Rocky, trying to pull a good shot. After lamenting for a while about the lack of a fill line, we got quite close to pulling a nice shot, whereupon we ran out of water and consequently gave up.
Ill bring whats left of my most recent surprise pack from the Brown...itll be near on two weeks since I received it, so I make no promises regarding what will be left over.
A chocolate-off you say? Let me finish this week and Ill see whether I want to play this game...
Thanks for all of the support I have received from the Coffee Snobs community since I opened.
As you can see I have got around to creating a login for the snobs forum "Aerabica" - brand name of my coffee roaster.
Looking forward to catching up with you all on Saturday.
Welcome to CS, Nigel.
Its great to have more professional roasters on board to share the wisdom.
I hope you wont be competing for beans on Bean Bay though ;) ;D
Im keen to see what youve set up and have a chat.
See you Saturday,
either brownies or choc pudding, thats all i can make thats chocolate.
brownies would be easier, pudding is better but to much mess for this event.
Was doing my best to attend and then the entertainment controller advised she had other things planned....
Next time :-(
For those that missed out, it was a really good time, humbling and inspiring to hang out with so many dedicated snobs and coffee aficionados.
I was pleasantly stoked at the attention that the Presso received, except I choked during my demonstration and pulled quite an ordinary shot...
Props again to Nigel for hosting.
Second that it was a good arvo. It was good to put faces to names. Thanks to nigel for the venue, Jason from Pioneer who supplied alot of coffee and Mark (Sparky) for bringing your roast as well it was great. Jimmybs brownies were good, did they have some honey in them? Meg was that your slice with the nuts on top that was outstanding as well.
Going to try to sleep now.
Glad to hear it went so well.
I got in the car to drive up there and found my car battery had died.
By the time RACQ came and replaced the battery it was just too late to go :-(
oh well, next time hopefully ....
I agree guys,it was great afternoon.
Thanks Nigel for hosting and everyone who bought their knowledge, expertise and treats to share.
But you redeemed yourself with that last shot you pulled for Nigel and I with the naked PF.Originally Posted by Daveze link=1181867076/30#34 date=1183204395
Very nice I hope you remember the coffee you used.Id like to try some more of that.
Yep, another interesting get together. Its great to have industry professionals mixing with home enthusiasts. Afterall we all love our coffee. It was especially interesting for me to have May run my home roast through the machine and produce a bloody nice flat white... Jasons inpromptu mocha java blend was also a standout performer.
I wish Nigel all the best with his business, especially since the Coffee company and Gloria Jeans have both moved into his market. Lets hope that passion prevails.
Been awhile between shots here on CS
Just missed this met......are you planning another/regular get together?
Many SEQ snobs have an informal gathering at bean bay pickup day. Nothing formal, just hang around a bit and have a few coffees and some light snacks. The next pickup will be at my place on Sat the 14th. Youre welcome to drop in, even if youre not picking up any beans.
A few of us were also discussing having another roasting day, which may be at Megs house in Ipswich... Just keep a look out for the thread.
Hi snobs, that was a great meeting! I was glad to taste test Jasons new beans, test home-roast on commercial machines, presso (OMG!! So NAKED!!!) and see you all there at Nigels shop! It was really nice to meet you all, and hope I can come along to future snobby-meeting... it was a fun sunday.
Mark (Sparky), could you let us know when and where the meeting/bean picking up day is?
Again, thanks for the lovely day!
Hi May. The when is Sat 14th. The where is my place in The Gap. Ill PM you the full address. I havent decided the actual time yet. Ill be sure to post the details early next week... if the beans actually arrive....
CSers are welcome to drop in during the beanbay pickup and have a chat/coffee and buy a chocolate for my daughters charity fund raiser.... before we eat them all....
The time is 10am-2pm this Saturday 14th.
